From the Principal's Desk

Friday, May 30th, 2025

Dear BHS Students and Families,

With the end of the school year rapidly approaching, I am including some important dates and information below:

  • Graduation is at 10am on Saturday June 7 on Harris Field. If you would like to watch the ceremony and do not have tickets, there is open seating on the bleachers. The exercises will also be streamed live by Belmont Media.

  • The last day of school for students is Tuesday June 17.

  • End of year finals will take place June 12, 13 & 16. I will send out the schedule of exams next week. Students are only required to be in school for their finals on these days. The school will be open normal hours for those wishing to study, and breakfast/lunch will be served.

  • The first day of school for the 2025-2026 school year is Wednesday September 3rd, 2025.

  • All students with lockers must clear them out before leaving for the summer. I will send out a locker form in the August newsletter, and students wishing to have a locker next year should sign up then (you will not automatically be reassigned a locker, even if you have one this year).

  • All textbooks must be returned by the end of the school year, and any negative lunch balances must be paid.

  • Current 10th grade students must return their Chromebooks for summer maintenance (see below for more details.)

National Latin Honor Society

Nicholas Edmonds founded the NLHS with Ms. Manca last school year. The inaugural induction for the 23-24 school year was held in December 202. Last week we held the second induction of students for the 24-25 school year. Latin students came by to honor and thank Ms. Manca (grades 7-9 Latin teacher and Latin Club, JCL, and NLHS faculty advisor) and to wish her well in her retirement.

Fascinating watch by one of our stellar graduating student athletes!!!

Baseball

The Marauder 9 finished the season over the Memorial Day weekend hosting the annual Brendan Grant tournament at Watertown and Lynnfield HS fields because mother nature pretty much washed the BGF into Clay Pit pond! Unfortunately, the Marauders could not earn the one victory needed to earn an MIAA Tournament berth and ended the season with a 9-11 overall record. BHS lost to Reading on Saturday and then Burlington on Sunday in two hard fought games. Eric Porter and Craig Deane pitched well as starters in both games and Ryan O’Byrne led the way with four hits over the weekend. WE want to say thanks to our 7 senior players; Ryan O'Byrne, Nolan Kelleher, Dave Kioumejian, Aiden Brdoerick, Katherine Murphy, Xander Mutch, Thomas Dolan and our 2 senior managers, Jack Callanan and Joe Ianelli. All 9 gave us commitment, leadership and dedication throughout the years and we wish them the best!!!!!

Boys Outdoor Track

Boys Track is sending a strong crew to the Division 2 Championship meets, held at Merrimack College on Thursday, 5/29, and Saturday, 5/31. Malcolm Were will take on the triple jump, Mitchell Woo will compete in the pole vault, and Jared Rife, Ian Hettenbach, and Noah Geiger will race in the 2 mile. Saturday’s lineup features Esmael Peavey in the high jump, Takeshi Tatsumi in the 110m hurdles, Jared Rife and Eli Meretta in the mile, along with a 4x400m relay team of Anthony Katos, Eli Meretta, Isaac Weng, and Mark Chumack. The 4x800m squad—Elias Campisano, Henry Heldwein, Reno Ragar, and Rohan Licht—will also be hitting the track. Let’s go, Marauders!

Boys Lacrosse

The boys lacrosse team finished out the regular season with two huge end of season games.  Perfect preparation for tonight’s battle at Acton-Boxborough.

Boys Rugby

Boys Rugby wrapped up their regular season last Friday night with 2 resounding wins.  The varsity team defeated Catholic Memorial while the JV side bested Montachusett Tech on a rain soaked evening.  The weather never dampened the spirits, nor the level of play and both sides showed some quality skills that had been built throughout the season and should be proud of their efforts.  As the regular season is concluded, we have set our eyes on the postseason.  We have earned the #3 seed in the state and will play in the semifinals next Wednesday, June 4th at 6pm at Xaverian Brothers HS in Westwood, MA who earned the #2 seed.  In our previous match we finished with a 17-17 draw and this is surely going to be a great match and we invite all our supporters out to cheer the team on. Best of luck to all our BHS teams in the postseason and congratulations to all on successful spring campaigns.

Boys Tennis

The boys wrapped up the regular season 11-5 in the league, 11-8 overall, and earned the 17 seed in the playoffs, sending them to play at 16 seed Xaverian Wednesday afternoon. The match was a roller coaster ride for the Marauders, as they lost 4 of the first 5 sets in the match before coming back to sweep the two doubles games and win the deciding 3rd singles match. In the 3rd singles match, Senior Captain Arvino Mahadi battled to an epic 3-set victory that ended in an 8-6 tiebreaker to determine the 3rd set, and propel the team into the next round. A shout out to Senior Captains Henry Moriarty, Soyam Pokharel, and Arvino Mahadi for showing their leadership and winning their matches in the victory. The team will most likely face #1 seed and defending state champion St. John’s Prep early next week.

Boys Volleyball -Season Recap Next week

Special Thank you to our Managers for all the support this year!!!

Softball

Softball ended the regular season with two tough losses to Lexington and Reading. In the extra innings loss to Lexington sophomore Olivia Ormond pitched all eight innings and struck out 12 Lexington batters.  Senior catcher Josie Kim was 1 for 1 in the Lexington game with a run batted in. Despite the losses, the team did qualify for the MIAA Division 1 tournament. The Marauders will open tournament play on Thursday May 29 at Diman Regional Vocational Tech in Fall River at 4pm.

Girls Outdoor Track

Belmont Gals’ Track absolutely gave it the beans on Thursday, positively taking the competition to the cleanahs with personal-records galore. Coach George rolled up his “punk-rock skinny jeans” for this one, and Coach Pizzi not only drove the team van but also provided the luxury of a fully functional outdoor ceiling, commonly know as a tent. Seniors Dana Lehr and Sarah Yu took honors in their races, with @DangerouslyFastDana winning the 2 mile with a season-best time and @LateSeasonCaptainSarah passing six hopeless competitors in the second quarter of her 800m. Saturday will assuredly be a great day as well, with Coach Clark and Bella Fernandes bringing out the heavy artillery for the D2 javelin championships. Put your sunnies on people, because the future for these post-season athletes is lookin’ BRIGHT!

Girls Lacrosse

The girls lacrosse team closed out the season last Friday with a come from behind victory over Billerica, 10-9. This brings the regular season record to 13-7 overall and a 3rd place finish in the Middlesex League Liberty Division. The girls finished the season ranked 14th in the D1 Power rankings and will host a first round state tournament game on Friday evening at 5:30pm on Harris Field against the 19th ranked Braintree high school.

Additionally, the girls had 4 players recognized in the Middlesex league as All-Stars. Senior Captain Charlotte Mayall and Junior attacker Sydney Mun were named all-stars in the Liberty Division. Junior Captain Niamh Lesnik and Senior Captain Keira Healy were named to the All-league team as 2 of the top 12 players in the league.

Girls Rugby

Girls Rugby wrapped up their regular season last week with a 42-0 victory against Cambridge.

GIRLS RUGBY

Girls Tennis

The tennis team finished the regular season at 11-8 and seeded 16th in the division 1 rankings.  The team is excited to get back into match play today against #17 seed Newton North.  The lineup consists of Armela Mahadi, Giselle Fond, and Holly Kong at singles.  Amy Chen and Avery Cai will pair up at first doubles and Ingrid Hellsvik and Joy Son will be together at second.  The match begins at 4:30!

Ultimate Frisbee

The Varsity Ultimate Frisbee Team (aka The Grilled Cheese) wrapped up their season this past weekend at the D1 State Tournament.  On the heels of a successful regular season, the Grilled Cheese went 3-0 in pool play on Day 1, lost in the semifinals to Arlington High School, and defeated Lexington High School on the final point (in Ultimate terms: Universe Point), claiming 3rd best team in the state, and ranked 33rd in the country.  Many congratulations to this team for an incredible 15-3 seasons!  This link is to the final point of the game!
