Student Survey

Belmont Public Schools is exploring new pathways to graduation.
Pathways are ways for students to take a connected sequence of courses around an area of interest—such as engineering, media production, or other fields—while still meeting all graduation requirements. These pathways would also include opportunities to apply learning in real-world ways, such as internships, projects, or research.

Right now, most students follow a similar set of required courses and electives that don’t always connect to a specific theme or future interest. We want to explore how high school could offer more options—pathways that are academically strong, engaging, and help students see how what they’re learning connects to college, careers, and life after high school.

All courses in the Program of Studies would continue to be open to students. Pathways would simply offer an option to follow a specific sequence of courses connected to a particular area of interest, along with hands-on learning experiences.

Your feedback is an important part of this work.
This survey is designed to understand what types of pathways and learning experiences would interest you. Your responses will help guide future planning for high school programs.

This survey should take about 5 minutes. Please respond by January 30.

Did you know that more than 1 in 3 children in Massachusetts aged 12 and younger live in low-income or homeless situations and are at risk of clothing insecurity? To help combat this, the BHS Student Government is hosting a school-wide clothing drive in support of Cradles to Crayons next week - February 2nd through 6th - with the goal of raising 1,000 items for local families. A variety of used and new items may be donated at the bins in the school lobby (See donation guidelines + instructions HERE). Thank you for your kindness!

ATHLETICS

Girl's Hockey

On Wednesday January 28th, Belmont girls varsity skated away with a 5-3 victory at Melrose. Mia Smith started the scoring with a breakaway goal for BHS. Melrose responded with two goals to close out the first period. The second period saw both teams trade goals. This set up a dramatic third period as the Marauders scored three times to secure the win. The winning goal was scored by Mackenzie Tierney. The win improves the record to 8-4-2. Next up is Reading at home at 1:00pm on Saturday.

Alpine Ski

The fresh snow this week provided some fun new surfaces for us to train on and we moved our usual Tuesday race to Friday, which allowed us to get more training on Slalom gates this week before the race.
Next week is huge for the skiing team and we’re hosting a race day for all team members on Friday 2/6 at Nashoba.

Boys Basketball

This Week, …The Boys varsity basketball was able to win two in a row last week. With an overtime win vs a very talented Stoneham team and then a great second half effort to win at Reading (58-35) puts the team at 7-5 overall. The JV and freshman teams also secured wins. All three teams look to keep the momentum going tonight as we head to Arlington tonight.

Girl's Indoor Track

The Girls Indoor Track team had a strong week of practice as we get ready for the Middlesex League Meet on Monday at New Balance.

Girls Basketball

Varsity: Girls basketball continues its undefeated January run with two dominant wins over Middlesex League opponents Reading (48–35) and Melrose (53–42).

Against Reading: senior captain Sophia McClendon led all scorers with 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Versus Melrose: our sophomore point guards set the tone. Sarah Geller willed in 20 points with some shifty drives to the hoop, along with 3 assists, 2 deflections, and 2 steals, while Eva Berlis contributed 9 points, grabbed 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 deflection, and 1 steal.

As the season rolls on, we’re also seeing our younger players emerge: Freshmen Gwen Cornett with stellar on-ball defense and Ellie Siegert growing into a reliable outside threat with timely three-point shooting. Sophomore Kiki Honton has also shown up as a steady post presence, bringing defensive and rebounding energy off the bench.

With these wins, the team is now riding an eight-game winning streak, improving to 10-4 overall! Next up: a road game and rematch tonight at 7:00 PM against Arlington who beat us earlier in the year. Come cheer us on!

JV: The Girls JV Basketball team continues an impressive run with two big wins over Reading, and Melrose  a streak fueled by teamwork, toughness, and an unselfish mindset. Led by freshman Ruth Christensen, the group played with focus and confidence, showing poise in key moments and relentless energy on both ends of the court. Every player contributed with heart and hustle.

With back-to-back victories over Reading and Melrose, the team’s winning streak now stands at nine straight games, highlighted by a perfect 8–0 record in 2026. Sitting at 10–3 overall, this squad continues to grow stronger each week. We're incredibly proud of their effort and mindset. The girls are excited for a big matchup vs Arlington who beat us earlier in the year.

Boys Hockey

The boys varsity ice hockey team has been working extremely hard in practice. Lost a couple of close games over the last two weeks on Wednesday, January 28, The work paid off the team traveled to Melrose and took on a very solid opponent. The team played excellent in all three zones both offensively and defensively and came out with a 4-
0 win. Looking forward to a busy weekend with games Saturday home against Reading at 3 PM and Sunday against Concord Carlisle at the Tully forum 3:20 PM.
