Make Music with the New Belmont Community Band
POMS (Parents of Music Students), Belmont’s booster organization for music education, is excited to announce the Belmont Community Band, a special opportunity for parents, teachers and others in our community to share a love of music and experience the fun of playing with others. Developed in collaboration with Powers Music School, the Belmont Community Band is designed for adult musicians of all skill levels who play woodwind, brass or percussion. A portion of each participation fee helps POMS support K-12 music in the Belmont Public Schools with guest artists and conductors, instruments and equipment, scholarships and more.

BHS Heart Club is excited to host the American Heart Association's American Heart Challenge! Students can enter by scanning a QR code to register on the AHC website. BHS BOYS SWIMMING AND DIVING
UNDEFEATED SEASON and ML12 CHAMPIONSHIP
The cheerleading team spent this week focusing on strength, conditioning and endurance. They learned new sprinting drills as well as stunt drills to strengthen their ability to perform and stunt.
Ranked #16 in the latest power rankings, Girl Basketball (10-6), heads into the weekend with a big matchup at Reading (5pm).
Girls Indoor Track competed in the Middlesex League JV Championship Meet on Monday. Amelia Ormond placed 5th in the league in the 55m Dash, Vera Harrell placed 5th in the 300m Dash, and Oli Chakrabarty placed 3rd in the 1 Mile Run. Great job by everyone who competed! On the Varsity side, the girls are preparing for the Middlesex League Championship meet on Monday, 4pm, at The Track at New Balance.
The Girls Hockey team continued their unbeaten streak this week by picking up 2 additional wins and pushing their record to 12-0-1. On Monday the girls beat Newton North/South in a Non-league game by the score of 3-0 with Jil Costa posting another shut out. Junior Captain Sydney Mun got the scoring started with Mackenzie Clarke and Mia Smith adding the other goals. On Wednesday it was back to Middlesex League action with a home game vs. Stoneham and a 5-0 win. Gigi Mastrangelo scored her first Varsity Goal which ended up being the game winner and Senior Captain Sadie Taylor added 2 others. Sophomore Adele Goho also scored her first Varsity goal to round out the scoring. Jil Costa stopped all 23 shots she faced for her second shut out of the week. Big game coming this Saturday at home against a tough Winchester team that skated to a 0-0 the first time the teams played earlier this year. The team was ranked #13 in the Boston Globe poll this week.
This weekend, Belmont Wrestling will be traveling once again to Woburn High School for our last weekend competition of the regular season. We will be facing the wrestling teams of Woburn, Lincoln-Sudbury, Norwood, Billerica, and Marshfield. Next week, on Thursday, February 6th, Belmont will host our final regular season match - a home dual meet against Mansfield High School that will also be the night of our Senior Night Ceremony. Wrestling will begin at 7:00 PM for that event.
On Tuesday the boys had a road game at Winchester High School. Winchester HS played a very good game winning 41-75. On Friday, the boys head to Reading Memorial High School for a 7pm tipoff.
Boys Indoor Track competed in the Middlesex League JV Championship Meet on Monday. Tomas Wolff was 7th in the league for JV 600m. Parker Reynold was 2nd in the league for JV high jump. Carder Lloyd and Aayush Bhandary tied for 4th in the league for JV high jump. Marvin Mendoza was 7th for JV shotput. Will Olmsted was 4th in the league for JV 2 mile. On the Varsity side, the boys are preparing for the Middlesex League Championship meet on Monday, 4pm, at The Track at New Balance.
Boys hockey had a very busy week. Last Friday a Middlesex league game v. Wilmington - the team settled down and took the game 7-3. Wilmington worked very hard and kept the game close until the third period. On Sunday the team faced Concord- Carlisle in the first round of the Burns Tournament. Adam Bauer led the way to a win with 3 goals. The line of Adam Bauer, Leo Packard and Liam Guilderson continues to dominate opponents in the offensive zone. On Wednesday night Stoneham outlasted the boys with a 2-1 win. The team continues to work hard in practice for two key matchups this weekend. Friday night senior night against league rival Winchester 7:50pm at Watertown Arena. Then on Sunday the second round game of the Burns Tournament v. Hingham at 6pm - at Bentley University.
Our first Slalom race of the season and all 22 racers brought their A-game. The girls team took 2nd in the lead with Anoush McCarthy again finishing #2 in the league! We have a special race this Friday PM with Belmont racers so that all 35 who made the team can test their skills with timing against their team mates. Results from Friday may see some changes to upcoming race schedules!

Katherine has four sons who graduated from Belmont High School, and all have taken Gap Years. She is an Accredited Gap Year Consultant, a Professional member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association, and speaks and publishes regularly about the profound impact that Gap Years have on young adults.
