Belmont High School

From the Principal's Desk

Friday, October 10th, 2025

Dear BHS Students and Families,

It is coming up to the time of year for Parent-Teacher Conferences. You may remember from last year that each teacher has enough five-minute conference slots for approximately half of their students, so please only sign up to meet with teachers where you have questions or concerns. If a teacher runs out of slots, please email them directly to arrange a time to meet during the school day.

The Dates of Conferences are:

November 5th, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM (VIRTUAL)

November 12th, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM (VIRTUAL)

November 19th, from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM (VIRTUAL)

How do parents register for a conference?

This year, we will be using Google Calendar appointment schedules to book appointments. Each of your child’s teachers will reach out to you directly to set these up over the next two weeks.

In other news, a big shoutout to all of the students (past and present) involved in the BHS forest project. Last Saturday saw the culmination of two plus years of advocacy and fundraising, and the initial planting of the Miyawaki forest marks a milestone for the project, which will fully mature within 30 years. You can watch a video journal of planting day from the Belmont Voice HERE. Check out the forest next time you are at BHS. Congratulations to everyone who played a part in making this happen!

Talking Points

 USING TALKINGPOINTS FOR SCHOOL COMMUNICATION

Families and teachers communicate through our new family communication platform, TalkingPoints. It can be used to communicate in 150 different languages.  The simplest way to view and respond to these messages is by using the TalkingPoints app, which you can download using the links on this page. If you do not have the app, the teacher’s communication will come to you as SMS text messages.

If you indicated you prefer another language, the school may set your language preference for you in the app.  You can always change it in your app.  Go to Settings, and click on Personal Info.  Click on the language menu, and type the name of your language.

Even if you change your language, you can still view the English version of a message or document by pressing and holding on the message.  A menu will open and you can get additional language support, including the original English.  You can see this here.

To help you get started, here are some general guidelines for accessing and using TalkingPoints.  If you prefer to log in from your computer, here are instructions.  This is a good way to read longer attachments sent by teachers.

Belmont Media Fundraiser

Belmont Media is moving to the new library and BHMS. This move is a fantastic opportunity to bring Belmont Media closer to the community. It also ensures sustainability of its services to the town (e.g. live and on-demand coverage of the School Committee Meetings).  .

At BMHS, Belmont Media already works closely with the Sports Media Student Club to livestream many athletic events. It also supports the Arts department by filming productions and providing training on theater media equipment. The new BHMS studio will enable the expansion of media education through enhanced curricular programs and afterschool activities.

To make this vision a reality, the Media Center is fundraising to cover costs for setting up the new studios, including sets, lighting, cameras, and more. Please consider making a donation by November 1st at belmontmedia.org/donate. Every contribution helps us bring exciting media opportunities to our students and community!

Thank you for your support!

BHS Ski Race Team

With fall sports well underway, Friends of Belmont Skiing are already preparing for this coming ski season.  The Friends of Belmont Skiing (FOBS) is a non profit organization that supports the BHS ski race team and coaches. FOBS is a fun and dynamic group of parent volunteers!

The annual ski sale will be held at The Chenery Middle School on Saturday November 15th 2025.  This is a great opportunity to pick up equipment for this ski season as well as offload your used ski equipment that you or the kids may have outgrown.  Most importantly, funds raised go to support the Belmont High School Ski Race Team.  For more information visit belmontskiteam.com or the Ski Team Facebook Event Page.

On Tuesday 28th October, Friends of Belmont Ski Team will be holding a parent information session at 7:00 pm at Comella's Restaurant, 11 Brighton St, Belmont.  We encourage the parents or caregivers of both previous racers as well as interested future racer parents to attend.  This meeting will cover possible changes to the logistics, be a chance for parents to meet, and for new parents to learn more about the program.  Please note this is intended to be an adult only event and pizza will be served.  Please RSVP by filling out this form so that we can get an idea of numbers.

For more information or if you have any questions, please email board@belmontskiteam.com.

Boys Cross Country

The boys faced off against Arlington at home this week. With many of the team’s varsity runners sitting out to rest up for this weekend’s Twilight Invitational, Arlington took a commanding 15-50 victory, dropping the Marauders to a 2-2 record. Next week we host Woburn on our home course where we hope to regain a winning record.

Cheer

The cheer team is officially less than one month out from the Middlesex league cheerleading competition! We are continuing to perfect our competition routine and working as a whole to level up our stunting skills and techniques.

Cheer

Girls Cross Country

Girls cross country hosted Arlington on 10/7 at Rock Meadow. Challenged by much warmer than usual weather for October, the meet was a battle. Arlington ended up edging our team in the end with a score of 23-32. The team showed a lot of resilience in less than ideal conditions, with many runners still walking away with season personal bests. The team is looking to rally next Tuesday 10/14 for our last home meet against Woburn. Tuesday will also be our senior day as well as our Morgan’s message contest, so please come out to support the team!

Football

After an off week, The Marauders head to Arlington High School for a 6:00pm game

Soccer

The Girls Volleyball team celebrated 10 Seniors on Thursday, with a 3-0 win and program sweep! We want to thank everyone who showed up and supported our Seniors! The Coaching Staff would like to shout out the players and parents who helped make the Senior night come together so well. From decorations, snacks and cheering on all 3 teams to victory we couldn’t have done it without their support.

Now 6-7 and ranked 22nd in D1, the Volleyball program has a tough 3 game week coming up after the long weekend.

Field Hockey

Varsity field hockey is now 10-1 after a win over Wilmington at home on Thursday night during our pink game.  Mackenzie Clarke continues to demonstrate strong offensive skills and scored 3 goals and had 2 assists in our last game.  We were ranked 5th in the Division 1 MIAA power rankings on Tuesday.  The team has challenging contests this week against Newburyport, Reading, and Dover-Sherborn.

JVA is currently 6-3-2 and are continuing to improve.  We are preparing to take on Reading next week who we had a tough 1-0 loss to early in the season.  The team has improved their communication and shots on net and are feeling ready for a different outcome.

JVB is 9-0-1!  We’ve been working on inners tipping the ball into the net, midfielders switching fields and defense passing wide to move the ball out of the circle.  We have a game against Chelmsford next week and are excited for different members of our forward line to put the ball in the net.

Boys Soccer

Belmont Boys Soccer had another strong week across all three levels. Varsity has won three straight matches, showing toughness and composure while grinding out results. The team now looks ahead to two big games next week—at Reading on Monday and back home for Senior Night on Wednesday.

JV continues to impress under Coach Luckson, putting together a strong performance against Wilmington with quick ball movement and plenty of scoring chances.

The Freshmen team earned a big win over Woburn earlier in the week, jumping out to a fast 3-0 lead and playing with confidence throughout. In a fun moment, goalkeeper Kavi even came forward to score a goal of his own.

Go Marauders!

This week Girls swim and dive continued their impressive winning record to 7-1 with wins over Winchester and Woburn/Burlington. Monday night we hosted our senior meet against Winchester, congratulations to this year's seniors! Their leadership skills are unparalleled and a true testament to the success of our team. Currently we have 11 individual athletes qualified for Sectionals and States. Next week we have our last regular season meet against Reading, where we look to qualify a few more athletes! This team has had an amazing season so far, we look forward to continuing our success next week, and into championships.

Golf

The golf regular season is over and the Marauders finished with a record of 10-3, winning the last league match of the year against Wilmington on Tuesday and the last match of the year against Weston on Wednesday.  This caps off an excellent season in which the team is co-champions of the Middlesex League Liberty Division.  In addition, Peter Ausrotas, Will Jackmin, and Rohen McKenzie won the Liberty Division Team Championship at the All-Star League Tournament.  The Division II North State Sectional Tournament is Wednesday.
