Belmont High School

From the Principal's Desk

Friday, October 17th, 2025

Dear BHS Students and Families,

The town rink is nearing completion, and assuming that all goes according to plan, our girls’ and boys’ hockey teams will be back on Concord Ave for the season after two years at Watertown. A big thank you to everyone involved in making this happen. If you are interested in seeing inside the rink, check out the drone footage here.

Invoices have been sent out to everyone who is signed up for AP tests this year. If you/your child are planning to take an AP exam this year and have not been invoiced, email studentsupport@belmontschools.net. Please be patient in waiting for a response. Emailing guidance and/or administration will not speed up the process. All queries to the student support email will be answered.

This year I have four important stipend positions available that I have not been able to fill internally. I have advertised these positions to the general public.

  • AP exam coordinator positions (3 available, stipend $3570 each). View roles HERE.

  • National Honor Society advisor (1 available, stipend $1449)

If you are interested in any of these positions, you can apply HERE. If you have questions about the job roles, please contact me directly.

Talking Points

 USING TALKINGPOINTS FOR SCHOOL COMMUNICATION

Families and teachers communicate through our new family communication platform, TalkingPoints. It can be used to communicate in 150 different languages.  The simplest way to view and respond to these messages is by using the TalkingPoints app, which you can download using the links on this page. If you do not have the app, the teacher’s communication will come to you as SMS text messages.

If you indicated you prefer another language, the school may set your language preference for you in the app.  You can always change it in your app.  Go to Settings, and click on Personal Info.  Click on the language menu, and type the name of your language.

Even if you change your language, you can still view the English version of a message or document by pressing and holding on the message.  A menu will open and you can get additional language support, including the original English.  You can see this here.

To help you get started, here are some general guidelines for accessing and using TalkingPoints.  If you prefer to log in from your computer, here are instructions.  This is a good way to read longer attachments sent by teachers.

PTSO

The Gift of Failure

The Belmont Middle School PTO is excited to bring the BPS Parent and Caregiver community together for a 2-part discussion on the book “The Gift of Failure: How the Best Parents Learn to Let Go So Their Children Can Succeed” by Jessica Lahey, which explores the pitfalls of overprotective parenting during critical years of childhood development.

This book club will be facilitated by the BMS Assistant Principal, Jason DelPorto, and will take place at Belmont Middle School from 6:45-8pm on Wednesday, Oct. 29th and Wednesday, Nov. 19th. We will have light refreshments. Limited to adults and no childcare provided.

The Belmont Public library has allowed for 20 additional ebook copies via Libby during the months of Oct/Nov to access the book.

Please RSVP by 10/20 by completing this form. Max 20 registrants for the book club, in order to facilitate an intimate discussion. If we have a waitlist, those that are able to attend both sessions will have higher priority, to allow for continuity of the 2-part discussion.

Boys Cross Country

The Boys Cross Country team improved to 3-2 with a decisive victory over Woburn on Tuesday, placing 5 runners in the top 6 overall.  Many athletes set personal records, highlighted by senior captain Henry Heldwein and junior Elias Campisano, who ran under the 17 minute barrier at Rock Meadow’s 3 mile course for the first time.  The team travels to Lexington next week for a final tune-up as we prepare for the League Championship meet the following Monday 10/27.

Boys

Cheer

This week the team has been working hard on perfecting our routine, and it’s really starting to shine! Every practice has shown major improvement in timing, transitions, and especially our stunt sequences. The flyers are hitting new skills with confidence, bases and backspots are locking in stronger than ever, and the whole team’s synchronization has taken a big leap forward.

Football

Although the team came up short in a tough battle against Arlington, they showed heart and resilience until the very end. Losses like that only fuel the fire — and the team is locked in and ready to bounce back in a big way. A huge shoutout to our JV team, who continue to dominate! With their latest win, they now improve to 4-1 on the season and are playing outstanding football across the board. The future is bright!  This week, we turn our focus to a big matchup against Woburn.

Girls Soccer

Girls varsity soccer had another fantastic week two big win agains stoneham and reading . With a record of 11-2-1 the teams continued improving and getting ready for the state tournament. The JVA and the JVB teams continued their great season also . Very proud of the program and the season we having so far.

Girls Volleyball

Girls Volleyball is preparing for an exciting Home match on Friday against Wayland. Our last Home match of the season is Monday 10/20 where we will be hosting our Dig Pink Game to raise money for metastatic breast cancer research. If you come to the game where pink to support the cause!

Boys Soccer

Boys Varsity Soccer celebrated Senior Night with a 5-0 victory over Stoneham.

Senior Jake DiOrio was named Boston Globe Boys Soccer player of the week for his 3 goals in two matches last week.

Boys

Girls Cross Country

Girls Cross Country celebrated a win at home against Woburn on Tuesday, bringing our record to 3-2 for the season. Despite the cool and rainy conditions the energy was high amongst the team. Our meet served as a dedication event to Morgan’s message as well as senior day for our 11 seniors. Belmont’s top 3 runners took the 1st, 2nd and 5th places before our huge pack of runners proceeded to take up the next 14 places from 7th place through 20th. The cooler conditions (compared to a very warm 80 degree race a week ago) led to countless personal bests for runners on our home course. Our regular season wraps up next week on Tuesday at Lexington before we enter our post season competition.

Field Hockey

The Varsity field hockey team is now 12-1 with 5 games to go in the next week and a half.  The team had big wins against Newburyport and Reading this week and have huge games with highly ranked Dovery-Sherborn and Winchester coming up.  The team is currently ranked #4 by the Boston Globe and #5 in the MIAA Division 1 Power Rankings.  Gigi Mastrangelo was once again chosen as a Boston Globe Player of the Week.

JVA is 7-3-2 and they’ve played exceptionally well in the last few games.  They beat Reading 2-0 this week after losing to them the first time around.  The players passed the ball well and took more effective shots on the net.  Next they face 2 big league teams including Winchester and Lexington.

JVB is 10-0-1.  The team is passing well and they continue to work on making more calculated moves in the circle.  They are looking forward to their last week with 3 games.  The biggest game of the year is next Friday against Concord-Carlisle on Harris

Girls Swim and Diving

Girls Swim and Dive completed their regular season last night with a 69-101 win over Reading, improving our record to 7-1. Key swimmers last night: Junior Reina Yano, qualified for states in 200 yd freestyle, Junior Ahana Shamma qualified for sectionals 100 yd breaststroke, and Sophomore Delaney Guiterrez for embracing race mentality, fighting every stroke of the 500 yd freestyle to out touch Reading for a Belmont 1-2-3 finish. We look forward to our League Championship Meet next Thursday.

Golf

The Belmont High School golf team’s season is over.  The Division I North State Sectional golf tournament took place on Wednesday, October 15th.  We finished in a tie for 3rd place and missed out on advancing to the state finals by 1 shot.  Finishing with a record of 10-3, the Marauder golfers will be looking forward to next fall.  Best of luck to seniors Saira Samir, Lucas Durand-Reville, Mitchell Woo, Rohen McKenzie, and Harrison Barmak.
