From the Principal's Desk

Friday, December 20th, 2024

Dear Belmont Students and Families,

Happy holidays everyone! This is a homework free break, so I hope that you are all able to step away from your school work for a few days.

The high school will be closed over the break, with the exception of organized sporting activities.

All Night Party 2025

Belmont has a 50-year tradition of hosting a post-graduation ALL NIGHT PARTY for the graduating senior class. The party provides the graduates with a fun and safe way to celebrate with their classmates. This year's ANP will take place on Saturday, June 7 from 9 PM to 5 AM on Sunday. The tradition is for the JUNIOR CLASS FAMILIES to organize the party (and raise funds for the Class of 2026 party). We are looking for volunteers to participate in all aspects of planning this year's party while fundraising for next year's. If you would like to participate, please send an email to kauffinger@gmail.com.

Thank you,

Katie Auffinger and the ANP Committee

The boys headed to New Balance track in Brighton for the opening varsity meet against Reading. There were a lot of outstanding performances, notably some freshmen making their debut as varsity athletes. Marvin Mendoza scored 5 points in shot put, and anchored the winning 4x200 team. Noah Geiger scored 1 point by running 4:47 in the mile, an amazing time for a freshman. Will Olmsted ran a very impressive 11:09 in his first varsity 2 mile race. Returning athletes had some great performances as well. Belmont put up a good fight, but lost to Reading 70-30.

Boys Hockey

Junior manager Harrison Cook (pictured) announced the starting lineup to the boys varsity team prior to the Saturday December 14, 2024 home game v. Melrose. Melrose played a tight defensive game… but the BHS boys listened to Harrison, got pucks to the net, stayed in lanes, and shot the puck often to prevail 2-1. Senior Adam Bauer and sophomore Liam Guilderson scored the goals for BHS.

On Wednesday December 18, 2024, the varsity squad took on Watertown. The game was played at John Ryan Arena, which is the home rink for both teams. Belmont was the visiting team this year. Watertown came out with great energy taking an early 1-0 lead. The BHS boys found their stride and scored 5 unanswered goals winning 5-1. Adam Bauer and Liam  Guilderson had 2 goals each and Nolan  Kelleher added 1. Ethan  Bauer was solid in net. Many Marauders saw their first substantial playing time and performed well. The team will face Wakefield on Saturday December 21, 2024, 6pm at Stoneham arena.

Save the Date!  Screenagers: Growing Up in the Digital Age showing on Jan. 7

Parents and students are invited to a free showing of Screenagers: Growing Up in the Digital Age on Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 7 p.m. in the Belmont High School auditorium. This event is hosted by the Belmont High School PTSO.

Screenagers (updated in 2024) is an award-winning documentary that looks at the impact of screen technology on kids. It features personal stories from families, depicting the messy struggles that parents, tweens, and teens are having over social media, video games, academics and screen addiction. Through interviews with parenting authors and brain scientists, the film offers ideas on how adults can help kids navigate the digital world in a healthy way.

This is a community event and open to all Belmont parents and caregivers. Adults are encouraged to bring their middle school and high school-aged students. The film runs 60 minutes and will be followed by a discussion with the audience. Doors will open at 6:45 p.m.
