Walking is a great way to stay active and get around, but it’s important to stay safe as a pedestrian. Always use sidewalks when available, and if there aren’t any, stay close to the side of the road and face traffic coming towards you. Be alert and avoid distractions like texting or wearing headphones that can block out sounds around you. Use crosswalks whenever possible, and make sure to look left, right, and left again before crossing the street. Even if you have the right of way, don’t assume drivers will stop—make eye contact with them to ensure they see you. Also pay attention to residential driveways and commercial buildings as cars or trucks may be entering or exiting. Staying aware and following these tips can help keep you safe while walking.
