Dear BHS Students and Families,
To mark the final day of Black History Month, the Symphonic Band’s Friday performance today was "I Want You Back" by the Jackson 5. "I Want You Back" was the first national single by the Jackson 5, released by Motown in October 1969, and became the first number-one hit for the band. It was performed on the band's milestone performance in December 1969, on The Ed Sullivan Show (that show is now The Tonight Show). The song has sold over 6 million copies worldwide. This year, staff nominated inspirational Black contemporary and historical figures to mark the month. Today’s nomination is Esperanza Spalding, nominated by Margot Reavey. Esperanza is an amazing female double bass player, performer, and composer. We will continue with this new tradition in March to celebrate Womens’ History Month, with each day’s nominated person displayed on the TV screens around the building.
Ramadan starts today, and ends on the evening of Saturday March 29. As Ramadan begins, we send the best wishes to our families and students who observe the month. We are here to support you throughout your fasting journey. Ramadan Mubarak!
Isaac Taylor, Principal
