Dear BHS Students and Families,
These past few weeks, I have written about all of the wonderful and tremendous accomplishments of our students. This week, I would like to highlight and recognize the amazing teaching and learning that is happening as a result of our incredible staff. On Wednesday, we had the opportunity to recognize our FBE Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award winner, Meghan Newcombe of the English department.
During the presentation of the award, her students were asked what makes Ms. Newcombe outstanding. Their responses did not focus solely on a profound love of Shakespeare, knowledge of contemporary literature, or a deep understanding of reflexive pronouns; instead, they highlighted her patience, flexibility, kindness, and desire to make learning fun.
Thankfully, we find ourselves in a place where both content and relationship-driven work are balanced in a way that helps our students achieve. BHS is filled with talented, thoughtful, and extremely knowledgeable educators who show up day in and day out for our students. Ms. Newcombe, along with all of our staff, is a wonderful example of this. We are grateful for the support of the FBE, and the students and families who nominated teachers for this recognition.

Assistant Principal

Mr. Libby has been selected as Belmont's new Director of Student Services. As part of his entry plan, he will be listening to different stakeholders. We are organizing an opportunity for students to provide their perspectives in order to help inform the administration of lived experiences and potential for improvement. All students are encouraged to participate, including those who have experience with student services (i.e., accommodation plans, 504s, IEPs, etc.) and those who are passionate about improving accessibility and inclusion within our school community. Dear Belmont High School Parents and Guardians of 9-11 Graders,
We are excited to celebrate the Belmont High School Class of 2026 with our upcoming All Night Senior Party! This special event provides a fun and safe way for our seniors to celebrate together, and we need your help to make it a success. Traditionally, the parents of freshmen, sophomores, and juniors work to make this party a success
We are currently looking for parent volunteers to assist in several important areas:
Class of 2026 Lawn Signs Help is needed with distributing Class of 2026 lawn signs to support the event. This is a great way to show school spirit while helping raise funds.
Food Donations
We are seeking volunteers to help coordinate and collect food donations for the night of the party. Contributions from our community will help ensure a fun and well-stocked event for all students.
Night-of-Event Volunteers (Especially Nurses)
We are especially looking for a few nurses or medically trained parents who would be willing to volunteer during the event. Having medical professionals present will help ensure the safety and well-being of all attendees. But please volunteer even if you are not in health care! We will need volunteers in shifts throughout the night.
Your support truly makes a difference! If you are interested in volunteering in any capacity, please reply to this email or reach out to us directly.
Thank you in advance for helping us create a safe, memorable, and fun celebration for our seniors!
Sincerely,
All Night Party Committee 2026 Lawn Signs

This event is open to all. No RSVP is required, but you can use this Google Form to reserve seats and send us questions for the panel.

BASEBALL: Despite the cold temperatures the Marauder 9 opened up last Friday having to move the Home opener over to Watertown vs Everett. For the first time in 30 plus years, Craig Deane and Kyle Ksander combined on a no hitter and 6-0 win, striking out 14 batters. This week the Marauders lost two close games, 3-0 to Melrose and a hard fought loss to the Reading Rockets 3-2. The next game is today at Home, Grant Field, vs Watertown at 415. Saturday the baseball program will have their annual fundraiser by selling discount cards to local businesses and will be canvassing the town from 1:00-3:00. If interested in purchasing a card please email one of the captains (Charlie Tingos or Casey Regan)) by tomorrow at ctingos26@belmontschools.net or cregan26@belmontschools.net or swing by our practice from 10:00-12:30 on Saturday morning. Your support is greatly appreciated.
BOYS RUGBY: Home opener tonight against Milton 6pm
SOFTBALL: The Belmont varsity softball team opened up Middlesex league play this past Monday with a win over Melrose 13-3. Lily Friedman led the way offensively with 3 hits. Katherine Edmonds, Janna Feinberg, Olivia Ormond, and Maddy Pennock all had multiple hits in the win. On Wednesday the softballers made the trip over to Reading losing a tough one 4-1 to the Rockets. Maddy Pennock drove in the lone run with a single scoring Janna Feinberg. Friday April 10th Belmont varsity Softball will travel to Watertown for a 4:30 start.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL: This week, the boys volleyball team faced two tough opponents: a home game against Woburn on Monday and away at Westford on Wednesday. Unfortunately both teams defeated Belmont 1-3, after long and drawn-out matches. In a strange coincidence, both games followed the same pattern: Belmont varsity lost the first two sets but won the third. Against both teams in the third set, senior and “special weapon” Dhruva Suri went on five-point serving streaks, single-handedly clutching the victory for Belmont and giving us a silver lining for the week. Next week, Belmont plays a home game against Lexington on Tuesday, and away games against Arlington and Wellesley on Thursday and Friday.
ULTIMATE FRISBEE: This week the Varsity team had an incredible comeback win against Somerville 13-12, with freshman Ronan Kueppenbender earning player of the game by showing great consistency and poise in the offensive handler set. Honorable mentions go to the JV players who stepped up to fill injured roles. The JV team had their first game of the season against Bedford on Monday, ultimately losing in the competitive and windy match. Both teams look to take on Xaverian at home next Wednesday, with the Varsity squad also playing at home against Newton North on Friday.
GIRLS LACROSSE: This Week, the girls went 1-1 against middlesex league opponents dropping a tough game to Reading on Tuesday before bouncing back with a strong performance against Watertown in a 12-5 victory. Senior captain Niamh Lesnik lead all scorers in the Watertown win with 6 goals and 1 assist, while two Freshman, Ellie Siegert (2goals, 1 assist) and Sienna Pond (1g), contributed to the scoring. The JV girls continue their dominant run with 2 more victories to move to 4–0 on the season. Looking ahead to a busy 2 week schedule with 6 games before the end of school vacation, including non-league matchups against Billerica, Andover, North Andover, and defending D2 champion Notre Dame Academy (Hingham).
GIRLS TENNIS: This week, the tennis team finally got to play some matches thanks to some sunshine. Belmont began the season this week with wins over Melrose and Watertown. On Wednesday the Marauders lost a very tight match to Arlington (2-3), which included two three set matches. Some highlights this week were the three machine-like wins that senior Armela Mahadi earned in second singles. Additionally at singles, freshman Isha Appadwedula has had two impressive wins. Another freshman, Malina Loretan has also shined by stepping into a varsity singles role after senior Giselle Fond tweaked an ankle. Malina scored her first win in a grueling three set match. The Marauders take on Wakefield today at Winn Brook and are looking forward to a tough (and hopefully sunny) week next week with matches against Westford and Lexington.
