Tired of running out of classroom supplies mid-year? So are we! Belmont High School’s first-ever Donation Week - a fun and impactful way to keep our classrooms stocked without draining teachers' wallets. Until next Friday, April 18th, students, parents, and the community are invited to donate essential supplies like pens, paper, and dry erase markers and tissues. See the list of most requested supplies here. Collection boxes will be set up in the High School lobby for easy drop-off. Any and all donations are appreciated.
The Make A Statement Day Committee is thrilled to host their 22nd annual event on Wednesday, April 16th. Make A Statement Day is a fun and exciting event where students and staff are provided with white T-Shirts and markers. The goal of Make A Statement Day is to encourage participating members to write and draw on their shirts, making a statement, whether it be political, social, or a thoughtful joke. The next day, everyone will wear their shirts to school, displaying their statement. We hope to see you there!
The Marauder 9 has gone 1-2 in the last three games. A Competitive loss to a strong Westford and then some sloppy play against a good Wakefield team. The Marauders did pull off a nice win against Watertown with an 8-3 victory on the road. Sophomore Pat MacKinnon got his first Varsity win on the mound. Ryan O’Byrne, Aiden Broderick and Chuck Tingos have had multiple hits and are swinging a good bat. Marauders play Reading today at 415 at Washington Park.
The Boys Spring Track Team faced off against Winchester on a brutally cold and windy night last Tuesday at Burlington High School. It was 34 degrees and windy as heck, but that didn’t stop us from putting up some great performances and scoring big against a strong Winchester squad.
Although Winchester took the win, the boys had standout moments across the board. Parker Brookins and Esmael Peavey went 1–2 in the high jump. Hugh Goulding and Daniel Qi placed 2nd and 3rd in the 400m hurdles. In the mile, Noah Geiger took 2nd and Eli Meretta finished 3rd. Takeshi Tatsumi placed 2nd in the 110m hurdles, and Tomas Wolff added a point with a 3rd-place finish in the 400m.
Belmont swept the triple jump with Malcolm Were in 1st, Leonard Dai in 2nd, and Daniel Qi in 3rd. Mark Chumack grabbed 3rd in the 800m, and Liam Phillips took 2nd in the 200m. Jared Rife and Ian Hettenbach finished 2nd and 3rd in the 2-mile. To cap it off, the 4x400 relay team—Eli Meretta, Mark Chumack, Reno Ragar, and Frido Meischner—closed the meet with a win.
Great work, boys! Bring on Lexington next Tuesday!
Following a tough loss to Wakefield the boys lacrosse team sits at 2-3 on the season and 1-2 in the Middlesex. The team turns its sights on to Arlington, where they will travel for their next game, on Tuesday, April 15th at 430pm. The JV team had not contests this week and still sits at 3-0 on the season.
The boys rugby program continues to build as the season progresses. Last week the Varsity team tied Xaverian Brothers HS 17-17 and our JV team defeated them 19-0. Our Developmental team had their first home match of the season this past Monday, hosting St. John's Prep's. In a well-structured, hard-fought, and full-team effort, Belmont came out on top, 29-7. Tonight the Varsity and JV teams travel to Milton HS for a 630pm kickoff in what is sure to be an exciting match.
Rainy Week workouts…Big Match today
The Varsity Ultimate Frisbee continued its strong start to the season. We had a strong away loss against Arlington, one of the top teams in the country. We bounced back with a convincing 12-5 win against Xaverian. We are looking to continue the good start against Brookline on Friday!
The Belmont High Softball team is off to a 3- start this season. This week's only game so far was a 10-4 win over Watertown. Senior Tess Burroso was 3 for 4 in the Watertown game with a triple. On Friday April 11, the softballers will be playing at Reading.
A huge shout-out this week to our gal throwers, who SWEPT the competition in the javelin, shot and discus on Tuesday vs. Winchester. As well, congrats to Daphne Ries, who has started off the season strong with a big PR in the 100m hurdles. And finally - senior yet track rookie Sarah Yu won the varsity 400m in her FIRST EVER running race, shocking the crowd and silencing the skeptics. At this time, she is not accepting autographs, but stay tuned.
The girls lacrosse team currently sits at 3-3 overall (3-0 in Middlesex league) with 2 straight wins over Watertown (12-5) and Wakefield (15-7) this week. Today, we travel to Reading for a huge league matchup against the defending league champs at 4pm before hosting Arlington next Tuesday at 6:30pm on Harris Field.
Big Win Last night v Needham and L-S
Girls tennis is currently 3-1 with wins this week over Wakefield and Watertown. The win over Watertown was in especially tough conditions. Ingrid Hellsvik stepped into third singles and had an impressive victory. Both doubles teams (Amy Chen/Avery Cai and Joy Son/Katia Polina) and Armela Mahadi (first singles) had solid and efficient wins. Giselle Fond earned a grueling victory at second singles in a match that lasted over two hours. Congrats to the whole team who supported Giselle throughout her long match with solid sportsmanship.
The boys volleyball team faced tougher opponents this past week, incurring losses against Woburn and Waltham, but spirits are high especially on the junior varsity team, who have reached new heights with their team chemistry and communication, with JV captains Jonathan Tarja and Kevin Xiang leading their team in their best performance yet against Waltham. The team’s next game is Friday April 11th against Boston Latin School.
