Belmont High School

From the Principal's Desk

Friday, April 18th, 2025

Dear BHS Students and Families,

We were honored to welcome Congresswoman Katherine Clark to Belmont Public Schools for a meaningful visit that highlighted the strength of our students and the impact of our nutrition program.

The highlight of the day was watching four of our exceptional students engage directly with the Congresswoman. Their insightful questions and attentiveness throughout the conversation were nothing short of inspiring. It was a proud moment that underscored the thoughtfulness and curiosity our students bring to civic engagement.

We were also grateful to be joined by members of the School Committee, our local Select Board, and State Representative, David M. Rogers. Their participation helped foster an important discussion about how we can continue to encourage young people to actively engage in their communities—locally and nationally.

Congresswoman Clark toured our school kitchen and walk-in refrigerators, where we proudly showcased our commitment to local food sourcing. Through the Farm to School program, we’ve been able to purchase fresh, local ingredients that not only support our farmers but also reduce waste and enrich the meals we provide to students.

It was especially meaningful to see the Congresswoman enjoy a school lunch alongside us. We were proud to share a menu that featured local fish from Red’s Best, handmade spinach and feta calzones crafted by our talented chef, and smoothies made from USDA strawberries and yogurt. Our school nutrition team works hard every day to ensure students receive nourishing, delicious meals, and it was an honor to have that work recognized.

We look forward to continuing our partnership with Congresswoman Clark, a steadfast advocate for Belmont Public Schools and for equitable, sustainable school nutrition programs.

Baseball

The baseball team since last week split going 1-1. Lost a rain soaked shortened 5 inning game against Arlington on Tuesday of this week, Last Friday the Marauder Nine travelled to Reading to take on the impressive Rockets, but Junior pitcher Eric Porter was dominant on the mound throwing 6 scoreless innings , giving up only 4 hits and striking out 4 to earn the victory. He mixed up his pitches all day and picked off two runners; Nolan Kelleher picked up the save getting a 1-2-3 7th on only 7 pitches. Craig Deane had a big RBI single. Belmont faces Woburn on 4/17 and travels to Everett.

Boys Outdoor Track

The Belmont Boys Track Team took on Lexington at Lexington High School, and persevered through a downpour that caused a meet delay while we sheltered in the Lexington High Field House. After the storm cleared, we continued strong, although JV events, jumps and relays were canceled after that. Some notable performances include:

  • Takeshi Tatsumi (senior) with a PR in the 110m Hurdles, scoring a point for the team

  • Esmael Peavey (freshman) with a PR in the high jump, scoring a point for the team

  • Alborz Mosharaf (senior) with a PR in the 200m dash scoring 3 points for the team

Boys Lacrosse

Boys lacrosse had a very exciting game day vs. Arlington. Between the small-scale hurricane that blew through Arlington and the up and down play by both teams, everyone was on the edge of their seats, and some were blown off of them! Being down 10-7 with 6:00 minutes left in the game, the Marauders rallied hard to make it 10-9, but ultimately were not able to hold as Arlington put in a goal with 20 seconds left to win 11-9. The JV lacrosse team continues to roll as they brought their own storm to the SpyPonders and cruised to a 13-0 victory and are now 4-0 on the season under the incredible tutelage of head coach Eric O’Malley.

Boys Rugby

Boys rugby has had a strong week with the Varsity and JV teams picking up big road wins last Friday night at Milton HS with scores of 34-12 and 47-12 respectively.  Our Developmental side narrowly lost to BC High on the road this past Monday, yet played a great match and will look forward to their home rematch against BC High in May. We take on St. John’s Prep Thursday evening at 7pm on Harris Field for varsity, followed by the JV afterward.  Next week 45 members of the boys and girls rugby program will travel with their coaches to Italy continuing a team tradition dating back to 2011 when we went on our 1st international tour to Argentina.  This is sure to be an incredible experience and both teams will play a match while abroad as well.

Boys Rugby

Boys Tennis

Boys Tennis

The Boys tennis team is currently 3-3, with strong wins against Melrose, Reading, and Woburn. All three losses were tight ones (2 games to 3) against Arlington, Westford Academy, and Cambridge. The boys have been led by the unbeaten Senior/Junior doubles combo of Henry Moriarty and Brady Chan, and Freshman doubles combo Jack Moriarty and Graham Coradeschi. In the singles bracket, sophomore Kolya Radojevic has been holding down the 1st position, freshman Miles Hendriks has been a solid number 2, and senior co-captain Arvino Mahadi playing most of the matches so far at 3. The loss at Arlington was tough, but a highlight was Miles Hendriks’ epic 3 set victory (with 2 tiebreakers!)that kept both teams entertained for an extra 45 minutes.

Ultimate Frisbee

Belmont Ultimate secured a commanding 15-6 win over the Somerville Villains in windy conditions, showcasing grit and sharp execution. Andrew Ma earned Player of the Game honors with a standout defensive performance, racking up numerous Ds and setting the tone on every point. Parker Reynolds also delivered a strong game on both sides of the disc, earning an honorable mention for his steady handling and hustle.

Frisbee

Boys Volleyball

Boys Volleyball hit off an exciting week with home games against Lexington and Arlington. Lexington has a reputation for consistently placing top five in the league, but Belmont was nearly able to turn that around, narrowly losing 25-27 after the end of the third set in a best-of-five. On Thursday Belmont dedicated its game against Arlington to Morgan’s Message. Varsity Capt. Liam Sinclair led his team with a 35% kill percentage but was unable to hold off Arlington, losing in the fourth set. The JV team found its wings against Arlington, winning a set off of their JV-A team and sweeping JV-B 3-0.

Volleyball

Softball

Senior Tess Burroso was the player of the week last week for the varsity softball team. Tess was 5 for 8 in our two games last week with 2 doubles and a triple. Huge win for the varsity softball team this week over Arlington 13-7

Girls Lacrosse

The girls lacrosse program enters the vacation week coming off of a big come from behind win over league rivals Arlington 8-7 on Tuesday evening, which brings their record to 4-4 overall (3-1 in Middlesex League). The JV girls continue their amazing start and remain undefeated at 8-0! Vacation week provides some much needed rest and a chance to gear up for the second half of the season, with the next games scheduled for the Saturday after break at Wayland, before heading to Weston on Monday 4/29.

Girls Rugby

Girls Rugby has had a strong start to our season, with scores of 80-0 over Needham and 47-0 over Lincoln-Sudbury.  More significantly, with over 60 girls signed up to play rugby, we’ve been able to rotate all of our players into our matches at each level.  Over break, 45 members of the boys and girls rugby program will travel with their coaches to Italy continuing a team tradition dating back to 2011 when we went on our 1st international tour to Argentina.  We’re thrilled to be engaged in such a cultural exchange through our programs.

Rugby

Girls Tennis

The tennis team is currently 6-2, with both losses outside of the league.  The team lost a grueling match against last year’s state finalists, Boston Latin, 1-4.  The second doubles team of Joy Son and Ingrid Hellsvik had an impressive win in straight sets.  The first doubles team of Amy Chen and Avery Cai (known on the courts as “AC”) split sets with their Latin opponents and pushed them to 11-13 in the deciding super tie breaker. Despite the loss, it was an inspiring fight.  The team earned its tightest win of the season against Arlington earlier in week.  Once again, the doubles teams were key to the team win.  Both teams bounced back and earned three set wins.  Giselle Fond earned her most impressive win of the season at singles against Arlington.  She matched her opponents’ strength in hitting with a smart mental game and was machine-like in her ability to outlast her in long points, and then surgically win quick points at other moments.  The whole team helped in lifting each other up for the win.
