Dear BHS Students and Families,

As we close out quarter 3 of the school year today and look ahead to the start of the final quarter of the school year beginning on Monday, I want to take a moment to congratulate all of our students on their numerous and varied accomplishments throughout the year thus far, and highlight some of the experiences that we can look forward to in the coming months. From the transition to high school for our 9th grade students, to the college admissions process for our seniors, and all things in between, we have seen tremendous growth and achievement. Fall and Winter athletics have brought successes both on and off the field. Our student-led clubs have competed locally and nationally, advocated to local groups, volunteered to support Belmont community members, and generally found fun and engaging ways to collaborate with each other to make BHS a wonderful place to be. Our music and performing arts students brought excitement to the stage. Needless to say, we have a lot to look back on and celebrate.
We also have much to look forward to. The spring season of athletics, more performances, Prom and Senior activities, field trips, and the Senior Capstone exhibition, and even some more academic learning along the way. It is a great time to be here at BHS. Thank you for all that you continue to do to make it a wonderful community for our students. Wishing you all a relaxing and enjoyable holiday weekend. See you Monday in quarter 4!

Student Services

Mr. Libby has been selected as Belmont's new Director of Student Services. As part of his entry plan, he will be listening to different stakeholders. We are organizing an opportunity for students to provide their perspectives in order to help inform the administration of lived experiences and potential for improvement. All students are encouraged to participate, including those who have experience with student services (i.e., accomodation plans, 504s, IEPs, etc.) and those who are passionate about improving accessibility and inclusion within our school community. For additional information, please contact cedmonds26@belmontschools.net.

Hi BHS,

All Night Party 2026

Dear Belmont High School Parents and Guardians of 9-11 Graders,

We are excited to celebrate the Belmont High School Class of 2026 with our upcoming All Night Senior Party! This special event provides a fun and safe way for our seniors to celebrate together, and we need your help to make it a success.  Traditionally, the parents of freshmen, sophomores, and juniors work to make this party a success

We are currently looking for parent volunteers to assist in several important areas:

Class of 2026 Lawn Signs
Help is needed with distributing Class of 2026 lawn signs to support the event. This is a great way to show school spirit while helping raise funds.

Food Donations
We are seeking volunteers to help coordinate and collect food donations for the night of the party. Contributions from our community will help ensure a fun and well-stocked event for all students.

Night-of-Event Volunteers (Especially Nurses)
We are especially looking for a few nurses or medically trained parents who would be willing to volunteer during the event. Having medical professionals present will help ensure the safety and well-being of all attendees.  But please volunteer even if you are not in health care! We will need volunteers in shifts throughout the night.

Your support truly makes a difference! If you are interested in volunteering in any capacity, please reply to this email or reach out to us directly.

Thank you in advance for helping us create a safe, memorable, and fun celebration for our seniors!

Sincerely,
All Night Party Committee 2026

PSAT For Sophomores

Give your Sophomore student a PSAT practice run with Revolution Prep. These exams mirror the official test format, timing, and tools—like the on-screen graphing calculator, digital notes, and answer elimination.

 Why This Matters

After the exam, you’ll meet with a Revolution Prep testing expert for a 30-minute score review. This is where families unlock their student’s testing strategy—which test fits best, when to take it, and whether a class or tutoring is the strongest next step.

National Poetry Month - Writing Club

BHS’s Writing Club was started in 2023 by current senior and co-president Eda Galvez. The club offers weekly mini-lessons on different writing genres, creative activities, freewrites, and brainstorming opportunities among a community of fellow writers! If you’re interested in joining the club’s Google Classroom, email either egalvez26@belmontschools.net or ddejong26@belmontschools.net. In celebration of National Poetry Month, this April the club will be putting up selected poems around the school. The club also invites any BHS community member to participate in Poem in Your Pocket Day on April 30th. Participants are encouraged to carry a favorite poem or song lyric with them to share with peers and celebrate the art of poetry.

Epigram by Samuel Taylor Coleridge https://poets.org/glossary/epigram

Sir, I admit your general rule,
That every poet is a fool,
But you yourself may serve to show it,
That every fool is not a poet

Starting to think about college for your sophomore or junior?

Join Belmont parents, caregivers, and students for “College Planning: Parents Who’ve Been There—Ask Them (Almost) Anything” on Tuesday, April 28 from 6:30 p.m.–8:30 p.m. at the Belmont Public Library, 336 Concord Ave.

Hosted by the Belmont High School PTSO, this free event features brief remarks from the BHS Guidance Department followed by a panel of BHS parents of current seniors and recent grads. Panelists will offer practical advice, share lessons learned, and answer your questions about the college planning process.

College planning can include defining parent and teen roles, supporting teens (without taking over), making college lists, planning visits, completing applications, and possibly exploring other paths after high school graduation.

The panel ends at 7:45 p.m., and will be followed by a casual reception with light refreshments. Doors open at 6:15 p.m.

This event is open to all. No RSVP is required, but you can use this Google Form to reserve seats and send us questions for the panel.

Athletics

SOFTBALL:  This week the Belmont Varsity softballers opened the season with a non conference loss to Newton South 16-5. Junior Guiliana Mastrangelo drove in 4 runs on 2 hits. Olivia Ormond struck out 10 and walked only 1 hitter  in 6.1 innings. Sophomore Maddy Pennock led the team with 3 hits and Junior Dylan Bresnihan collected her first varsity hit with a single in the 7th inning. Both Varsity and JV teams have Middlesex League games next week. Top is a photo of the JV Team. Below is a picture of the varsity team. Both squads took advantage of some of the cold and dreary weather this week to head inside for some team building dodgeball competitions! See the photos below.

BOYS RUGBY:  Last weekend the Varsity and JV teams travelled to CT and competed against some of the top schools in the country in the Jesuit Rugby Classic.  Varsity went 1-1 while JV went 0-2.  The trip showed us a lot and gave us areas to focus on for the week ahead as we prepared for our first league match of the season. Last night our Varsity team tied Xaverian Brothers 12-12 with an outstanding team defensive performance, while the JV side won 29-5.  Our Developmental side traveled to St. John’s Prep this past Monday and had a great first match of the season winning 20-10.  It was a strong team performance, with many getting their first rugby action of their careers. Next week Varsity and JV host Milton HS Friday night at 6pm on Harris Field and our Dev. Side travels to Chelmsford HS on Monday.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL:  On Tuesday, the teams traveled to Medford High School, marking the first time we’ve faced this opponent in the history of the boys’ volleyball program. Though we put up a good fight, both Varsity and JV lost. Belmont played a home game against Burlington on Thursday. Although attitudes were apprehensive going into the match because Burlington had recently defeated Medford, Belmont’s JV swept 2-0 and Varsity followed with their own sweep, 3-0, with #26 William Sun led the team with 13 kills across 3 sets. Below is a picture of the victorious Varsity team.

GIRLS LACROSSE:  This Week the girls opened regular season play with a non-league win over Weston 13-11 on Tuesday evening, before notching their first win of the Middlesex League campaign on Thursday night 14-9 over Melrose. The senior captains have led the way in the early season with Sydney Mun scoring 5 in the opening win and adding 4 more in last nights victory. Niamh Lesnik added 5 goals and 2 assists in last night’s win with her 5th goal marking the 200th of her stellar career. Senior Captain Brooke Whalen has backstopped the team in goal with double digit saves in both games. The Girls next take on defending ML12 champ Reading Memorial HS on Tuesday evening at Harris Field at 6pm.

The JV squad also won both of their games this week, and is playing some strong lacrosse with contributions from up and coming 10th graders, 9th graders, and 6 8th grade players! Looking forward to big things ahead for the program!
