Belmont High School

From the Principal's Desk

Friday, April 4th, 2025

Dear BHS Students and Families,

BHS Guidance is in need of your help!  Since 2020, we have doubled the number of AP tests at BHS, and we now run almost 2000 individual exams. As a result, we are in desperate need of proctors to help us administer the AP exams. AP Exams take place from Monday, May 5, 2025 through Friday, May 16, 2025. We are not asking for a full two week commitment, but there are times within these two weeks when we will definitely need help proctoring. If you have time and are able to help, please reach out to Carole Sceppa at csceppa@belmontschools.net  You will need to complete a CORI background check. This could also  be a great opportunity for any college student home for summer break to make some extra money! The pay is $30/hr. Once we have an idea of when we need help, we will reach out to you with specific days and times. The purpose of this email is to gather names so we can start the CORI background check process. Without additional proctors, we may need to cap the amount of AP Exams we offer next year. Please consider this position if you are able!

OPENING WEEK….BRING ON SPRING!

"In the Spring, I have counted 136 different kinds of weather inside of 24 hours."

ATH

This week has started the competition season for our spring teams.  It's a week of great anticipation and opportunity.  Temperatures ranged from 32-64 degrees. Rain gave way to sun and back to rain…and sun again.

Today's home games include baseball, JV Softball, Boys tennis, and Boys Rugby.  Its a great day to stop down and check out the competitive action.

Baseball

The Marauder Nine opened League Play Wednesday on a cold and frigid day, unfortunately so was their defense committing 5 errors and leading to 4 Melrose unearned runs. The team battled hard and hit well all day, out hitting Melrose 11-4.Aiden Broderick led the way going 3 for 4 with 4 RBIS. Captains Ryan O’Byrne and Nolan Kelleher chipped in with 2 hits each. The Marauders made it interesting in the bottom of the 7th scoring 4 runs but ended up losing a close one 8-7. Next game is today at Grant Field at 415pm.

Baseball

Boys Outdoor Track

The boys track team continues their preparation for the first meet of the season, Tuesday April 8 against Winchester at Burlington High School. We are jumping, throwing, sprinting and running our way through the workouts and can’t wait to see some great performances next week!

Boys Lacrosse

The boys varsity team kicked off the season, last Saturday with a 9-7 victory over Cambridge. The team then dropped but Melrose when they opened league play 12-2, but quickly bounced back with a 15-4 win over Watertown on Thursday. The boys travel to Weston High School on Saturday, and are aiming for revenge after falling to Weston 11-10 last May on a last second goal by the Wildcats. The boys junior varsity team has started out on a tear, with three straight wins, and seeing incredible team play in all aspects of the game.

Lacrosse

Boys Rugby

Boys rugby is off to a strong start to the season with the Varsity and JV teams beating Lincoln-Sudbury last Friday night on the road to start league play.  Tonight they both play Xaverian Brothers on Harris Field with Varsity kicking off at 6pm, followed by JV at 730pm.  The varsity match is a repeat of last year’s epic post-season contest that saw us getting knocked out of the playoffs in a very close contest and tonight’s is sure to be an instant classic.  Our Developmental team had their first match this week vs Concord-Carlisle’s Varsity team and narrowly lost in a strong first outing and hosts St. John’s Prep on Harris Field this Monday at 345pm.

Boys Tennis

The tennis team continues opening week with a big home match today against non-league powerhouse Westford Academy.

Boys Tennis

Ultimate Frisbee

Belmont High Ultimate Frisbee had a strong showing in their latest matches, with both Varsity and JV securing wins against BC high. Varsity dominated BC High with a strong 13-4 victory, battling through crushing winds to bring their season record to 2-0 after beating Concord Carlisle last week. Meanwhile, JV kicked off their regular season with a hard-fought 9-7 win, highlighted by sophomore Dillon Reilly, who scored five points and added an assist. Looking ahead, JV will aim to keep their momentum going in their next game this Friday at 4 PM against Somerville High. -authored by our Spirit Captain, Kaan Berkmen.

Softball

Belmont Softball kicked off the 2025 season with a big 16-0 win over Melrose.  Olivia Ormond pitched five innings of shutout ball giving up only 1 hit and striking out 10!  Senior Josie Kim drove in three runs and walked twice.  Softball is at Wayland today for a non league game.  Monday April 7, 2025 will be our home opener v. Watertown.  Come on down to Clay Pit Field and catch the action.

Girls Outdoor Track

Did you spot a pack of cheetahs in Belmont Center this week?!  Maybe you did; or, maybe that’s just the ‘25 Gals Track Team!  And let me tell ya: the team is on the HUNT this season.  Our first meet is Tuesday vs. Winchester.  Be there or be x^2.

Girls Lacrosse

The Girls Varsity continue a challenging opening week with a trip to Bedford this Saturday.

Girls Rugby

Girls Rugby had a great start last week with a trip to Southington CT and two victories - Varsity won 40-7 and JV won 24-0. The bus ride, the post-game meal, and the connections with fellow rugby players were some of the highlights of a long day of travel! This week we’re headed into our weekend contests with the JV traveling to Lincoln-Sudbury on 4/4 and the Varsity hosting Wilbraham-Monson Academy at 2:00pm at Harris Field on 4/5. Next week our league matches commence with a Varsity match on 4/10 @ 6:00pm against Needham High School! We hope to see you there.

Girls Tennis

The tennis team began match play this week with a 5-0 win over Melrose.  All matches were straight set wins.  The team will travel to Westford on Friday for one of its toughest matches of the year and will have its home opener against Watertown on Monday at the Winn Brook courts.

Boys Volleyball

Boys Volleyball continued into its second week of the league with games against Wakefield and Burlington. The junior varsity team earned their first win of the season against Wakefield but fell to Burlington on April 3rd. The varsity players led by captains Ian Choi, Larry Zhang, and Liam Sinclair proudly clinched their third league victory against Burlington, winning 3-1 for an undefeated start to the season. March and April have brought the rain, and the volleyball team thanks the baseball and softball teams for being accommodating with field house space during the spring season.
