The Marauders 9 went 1-1 on the week putting their overall record at 8-8 and still fighting for a Tourney Birth. They lost Tuesday to a very stacked Woburn Tanner team, but on Monday night and under the lights at Lexington HS pulled off a great 8-4 win. Marauders went up 3-0, then down 4-3 entering the 7th but up 5 runs to secure the victory. Chuck Tingos, Nolan Kelleher and Ryan O’Byrne led the way at the plate and Aiden Broderick and Eric Porter got it done on the mound. The Marauders travel on the road Friday night to take on a talented Boston English for a 7:00PM first pitch.
The entire boys team headed to Reading High School on Monday night for the final dual meet against Woburn (also scored as a makeup against Arlington). There were some fantastic results on a beautiful night. Full results visible here. Next Wednesday we bring the varsity squad to Burlington High for the Middlesex League Championships. Let’s go Marauders!
The boys lacrosse team’s final home game of the season will be on Monday, May 19th, vs Lexington, JV will play before the varsity team. The team is playing at a high level and is battling tough in all their games, and getting improved play everywhere on the field. The junior varsity team continues to dominate as they won another 2 games this past week improving to 9-1 on the season. They travel today to Concord-Carlisle for their biggest test of the season, game at 430pm in Concord.
Boys rugby had 3 games this week, all against Boston College High School. It started with the Developmental team hosting BCH on Monday and narrowly going down 26-31, giving up a late try to the visitors as time expired. It was a well played match by both sides and showcased some quality rugby. Wednesday night our Varsity and JV teams hosted BC High as well. As the last 2 undefeated teams in the state, it was bound to be a physical affair and we knew going in the margins would be small. Credit to BC for playing a near flawless match and our side was just not able to execute as we had wished and lost to the better team on the night. The JV match was quite similar and as we look ahead these contests give us a lot to look at and correct as we head into our final match of the regular season at home next Friday night against Catholic Memorial.
This past week was another successful one for the Boys Tennis team, going 3-0 and bringing the season record to 10-5. Monday was Senior night and a rematch against Arlington who beat us 3-2 earlier in the season. Lead by Senior Captains Arvino Mahadi (3rd singles) Henry Moriarty (1st doubles) and Soyal Pokharel (2nd doubles), Belmont stepped up with a solid 4-1 win. Sophomore Kolya Radojevic also contributed with a solid 2 set win at 1st singles. Tuesday and Wednesday resulted in 5-0 wins at Watertown and Stoneham, with a 3 set singles win by freshman Graham Coradeschi at Stoneham in his first Varsity singles match.
.The varsity team played their match against Catholic Memorial this Tuesday, another team with a relatively new boys volleyball program. Belmont showed that Marauders are stronger than Knights, winning handily 3-1 despite missing four starting athletes. Varsity and JV traveled on Wednesday to Lexington in hopes of toppling one of the Middlesex League’s top-5 teams, but only JV was able to take a set in a best-of-three. Belmont is eagerly preparing for a rematch against Arlington on Friday, where both teams were narrowly defeated back in April.
The Marauder Softballers went 1-1 for this week. On Monday May 12 Belmont beat Wayland by a score of 13-1. Gigi Mastrangelo drove in three runs on 2 hits. On Tuesday May 13, the Marauders lost to Woburn 4-1. Sophomore pitcher Olivia Ormond had 14 strikeouts in the loss. Join us on Monday May 19, as we host Melrose. It will be Senior Day as well as Alumni Day. We want to invite any Belmont HS Softball alumni to come on down to the field for the game.
The ML12 tournament is next week- a final hurrah for several outstanding athletes (some brand new to track!)
The girls lacrosse team has won 7 of its last 8 games, including wins at the end of last week against Stoneham (12-1) and Waltham (10-2). This week the girls defeated Woburn High School on Tuesday evening (15-8) and edged out a hard fought win against the defending D1 State Champion and currently 8 ranked Central Catholic Raiders by a score of 13-12 on Thursday evening. The team is currently 11-6 with 3 games remaining next week to close out the regular season. The girls take on current #11 ranked Lexington on Monday before hosting Winchester on Wednesday at Harris Field for Senior night. The regular season wraps up next Friday on the road at Billerica.
The Girls Varsity Rugby Team had a big two games since the last update! On 5/9 they defeated a strategic squad at Brookline High School and on 5/14 they traveled to face a physical Weymouth High School and walked away from the game with a hard fought victory. This game has secured the #1 seed for Belmont Girls Rugby as they head into the last week of games back at home for a Senior Night on 5/22 against Cambridge Ringe and Latin. Girls Junior Varsity team has also had a great week, as they bounced back from a loss on the road to defeat the Lincoln-Sudbury JV at home on 5/8 and this weekend they come to the pinnacle of their season on Saturday 5/17 hosting a home tournament from 9am-12pm against Lincoln-Sudbury and Wilbraham Monson Academy. Come down to cheer on our talented squad!
The girls tennis team currently has a record of 11-5. The team lost a nail-biter match to Arlington on Monday, 2-3. Armela Mahadi had her biggest win of the season in beating Arlington’s tough number one player in an impressive comeback three set match. Unfortunately, the grind of that match left Armela with a flareup of an ankle injury. She was forced to retire against Reading the next day, but the team carried on with an impressive win over the Rockets, 4-1. The team shuffled its lineup on Wednesday against Woburn with Giselle Fond and Holly Kong moving up in singles. Ingrid Hellsvik moved from doubles into the third singles spot with ease and won with some crafty shots and consistency. Anna Burgarinovic paired with Joy Son and the two had an impressive win. Both Anna and Avery Cai showcased the team’s “get low” mantra in doubles this week. They had some highlight reel worthy volleys that all were successful because of their impressive legwork. Some of the junior varsity players deserve shout-outs for impressive net play this week as well. Grace Harrison, Elly Ishii, and Mary Folorunso all ended points with net play that got their teammates cheering. The team also celebrated its seniors this week who have always represented Belmont well both on and off the court. Everyone is proud of them.
Belmont Ultimate dominated on Senior Night with a decisive 14-5 win over Phillips Academy, improving to 8-1 and extending their win streak to six games. Captain Mark Tytell and senior Seamus Reilly led the offense with an impressive five assists each, while the defense stood strong, highlighted by standout plays from Oliver Poulin-Kerstien. The team played with energy and unity, making it a memorable victory as they prepare to face Lexington High School on 5/21 to close out the regular season.
