Dear BHS Students and Families,

Happy teacher appreciation week! A big thank you to the BHS PTSO for once again organizing a week of celebrations for our teachers and staff, including breakfast treats, classroom supplies, heartwarming notes of appreciation from students, and a wonderful lunch today from La Victoria. We are so lucky to have such an involved PTSO, who do so much for the staff and students (e.g. weekly therapy dogs, student wish lists, funding for students clubs, and so on). If you would like to learn more about what the PTSO does, or you would like to get involved, you can find more information on their website HERE.

Our Math MCAS will take place on May 20th and May 21st.  All sophomores should report to BHS by 8:00 am and have until 2:30 pm each day to finish the exam.  It is very important that every sophomore arrives with a fully charged Chromebook on both days.  Other students will have a delayed start and should arrive to BHS by 10:45 am for lunch and classes.

Boys Lacrosse

Boys Lacrosse had a 1-1 homestead over the last week. The Belmont faithful saw the boys finding their stride and jumped out to a 10-1 first half lead vs. Wilmington last Friday. The boys brought the same energy and intensity when the hosted state champion contenders Reading on Wednesday, and despite some weather delays, the Marauders played a very exciting and hard fought game vs. the Rockets. The JV program improved to 7-1 on the year after beating Reading 9-4, the first time a Belmont JV team has beaten Reading. The Marauders will host the Waltham Hawks on Saturday, May 10th, at 6pm during Lacrosse Night which also doubles as the Morgan’s Message Game.

Dev Report: BRFC Developmental Team traveled to St. John's Prep this past Monday, and came home with a resounding 31-5 victory! We were able to implement some new skills and moves that we've been working on in training that kept us on the front foot and opened up space to score. Defensively, we came up hard and put pressure on Prep's attack, shutting them down for most of the game. We look ahead to BC High at home on Monday, May 12, which is sure to be a good test!

Boys Tennis

The Boys Tennis Team managed to play and win three matches this week despite the rainy weather. They played Monday and Tuesday nights indoors at Belmont Hill School against Wilmington and Wakefield, and then Wednesday outdoors against Stoneham. Highlights included a gutsy tiebreaker win by sophomore Kolya Radojevic against Wilmington to cap a 5-0 team victory, and continued dominance in doubles play by senior captain Henry Moriarty, freshman Graham Coradeschi, Senior Captain Soyam Pokharel, and freshman Jack Moriarty. On Tuesday, Junior Brady Chen had a 3 hour match that clinched a 3-2 team victory over Wakefield. In Belmont’s 5-0 win over Stoneham, sophomore Victor Lisanke played and won his first Varsity singles match, and freshmen Paul Son and Isaac Meretta played and won their first Varsity doubles match. The team is looking forward to their home match against rival Arlington on Monday, which will also be Senior Night.

Boys Volleyball

The boys volleyball team found mixed results this week, battling Burlington at home to a 3-1 victory for the varsity team. Belmont had previously played Burlington on April 3rd with nearly identical results. Outside varsity hitter Thomas Yu led the team with 10 kills and 2 service aces, becoming the third player on the team to get to double digit kills in a game this season and showing what the Marauder Way means for volleyball. Both Belmont volleyball teams unfortunately fell to Woburn on Thursday, having several athletes absent during the busy AP testing week. Undaunted, Belmont looks forwards to the following week, with rematches against Catholic Memorial on Tuesday, Lexington on Wednesday, and Arlington on Friday.

Softball

This past week with all the rain the Belmont Varsity Softball team played just once.  On Wednesday May 7, the Marauders lost a tight game 4-3 to Burlington. Offensively, sophomore Elsie Lakin-Shultz led the way for the Marauders with 2 hits. Amelia Ormond pitched well giving up only 2 earned runs in 7 innings. Senior Day will be held prior to our home game against Lexington at Claypit Field on Thursday May 15, at approx 4pm.  Come on down and help us honor the softballers in the class of 2025!

JV Battled this week scoring a season high in runs. A fantastic group!!!

Girls Lacrosse

The girls lacrosse team capped last week off with a big 16-2 win over Wilmington last Friday. In Wednesday they traveled to North Andover where the played the team ranked at the top of the D1 power rankings. After battling from 5-2 down to take a 6-5 halftime lead, the girls exchanged goals and were locked in a 9-9 tie with 2 mins to go. Unfortunately falling 10-9 by the time the final whistle blew. The team is feeling confident and excited for upcoming games tonight hosting Stoneham HS on Harris, and Saturday’s Lacrosse night celebration against Waltham at 4pm. They end this week at #14 in the D1 power rankings with 2 weeks to go in the regular season.

Girls Tennis

The weather has been rough for tennis this week.  The team took some time on a rainy afternoon with board games to work on focus and strategy. Joy Son and Ingrid Hellsvik showcased that some of their strengths as a doubles team translated to dominance on the board too.  On the courts, the team won their third straight match on Thursday against Wilmington.  All of the singles matches were very scrappy and tight.  Giselle Fond continued to show that she is one of the most improved players on the team by outlasting a very tricky Wilmington opponent.  Similarly, Holly Kong fought off an opponent who ran everything down and extended every point.  The team also beat Burlington last Friday and Stoneham on Wednesday.

Ultimate Frisbee

The Ultimate Frisbee team had a scrimmage against Arlington High School under the lights at Harris Field on Wednesday. The Grilled Cheesers were victorious- racking up a winning streak of 6!  An away game against Newton North is coming up on Friday.

PTSO

For Acts of Kindness Week (Student Appreciation!) next week, let's help our kids enjoy school, release stress and just be kids for a while during their lunchtime. These activities are entirely funded by and run by the PTSO (read: parents like you!). Here's your chance to come into school to help behind the scenes. Please sign up-- we can't run the events without parent volunteers! The activities are all outside in the courtyard so you might want to wear sunscreen and comfortable shoes. Thank you!
