Belmont High School

From the Principal's Desk

Friday, September 19th, 2025

Dear BHS Students and Families,

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend back to school night yesterday. It was really great to see so many parents and guardians walking around the building and getting to know the teachers! My hope is that this will help to facilitate productive discourse between home and school for the rest of the year. Last night I spoke to the importance of regular attendance at school. We are trying to improve student attendance as a priority this year, and reduce the number of students who are “chronically absent” (18 days or more in a school year). HERE is the student absence tracker I mentioned- feel free to put this on your fridge if that is helpful!

I attended the week’s Asquisth forum, where Professor Gardner and Anthea Roberts discussed the role of AI in education, and how the education environment is changing, from early years through college. Neither speaker predicted the future, but both were confident that AI will inevitably change the focus of education in the coming years. Much of the cognitive load of writing, processing, and researching is shifting to computers, and there is an increasing need for people to assess, manage, and consolidate information, and to make decisions based on human and computer input. I am also not able to predict the future, but I do believe that AI will have more than a superficial impact on schools, and educators and families will be well served by staying up to date with research and discourse in this area. If you would like to watch the forum, you can view the recording HERE.

Important

Ebikes, electric scooters, electric unicycles, and so forth

This year there has been a dramatic increase in electric bikes, scooters, skateboards, and related vehicles on campus. I just want to remind everyone that the BMHS campus, including the pond path, are designed for cycle and pedestrian use. When using any bike/scooter, and especially electrically assisted designs, it is important to go slow. Many of these vehicles travel in excess of 30mph, which is far in excess of the 10mph speed limit on campus. PLEASE BE AWARE AND SAFE. Walk your bike/scooter on sidewalks.

Belmont Boosters

Greetings to the Belmont Community,
The Belmont Boosters Club, which started in the early 1940s, is a 501c3, volunteer-led organization that raises and administers funds for educational and charitable purposes to be used to promote and support the athletic programs and related educational programs of Belmont High School. For many years, the Boosters have provided funds to the BHS Athletic programs to help pay for varsity jackets, the BHS fitness center, the Harris Field press box, fan buses to away games, amongst many other things.\

On Sunday, September 28th, we will be having the Belmont Boosters B-Drive from 10am – 3pm. The drive will be led by parents and students that will canvas the town asking for donations to the Boosters Club. All BHS teams will be represented, and any donation that is made will go directly to them. The support of the town is greatly appreciated, and it goes a long way to make this feel even more like a community! Driver Sign Up & Student Sign-Up

Athletic Training

Hello All Student Athletes & Parents!

The Athletic Training page is now live on the BHS Athletics Website, go check it out! Remember, injury treatment and prevention doesn’t stop in the clinic. Staying healthy requires consistent care outside of practices and games. Prioritize recovery by focusing on rest/sleep, balanced nutrition, hydration and stretching to keep your body performing at its best. Recovery is PART of training, not something extra. As always, I am a resource for any specific recommendations or needs.

Cheer

This week the BHS Cheer team worked hard all week on its choreography.  The routine will be performed at the ML12 competition in 6 weeks.  The team travels to Cambridge tonight to perform and support the Football Team.

cHEER

Girls Cross Country

Cross country hosted their first home meet of the season against Winchester High School. The energy was high as we had beautiful weather to be hosting at Rock Meadow. With amazing fans and support, the team is showing strength early in the season, with performances surpassing late season performances just a year ago. Some runners set new personal bests and others showed significant improvement from our race one week ago. We are looking forward to a rest week from competition to get healthy and stronger in order to face our competitors in the second half of the season.

GIRLS CROSS

Golf

The golf team is rolling.  After a big win last Friday afternoon at Burlington, the team entered the week at 5-1.  Keeping the momentum with a huge win at Reading and a victory at home against Winchester, the golf team is now 7-1 and getting contributions from an experienced group of players.

Football

From Coach Joseph “Good Morning BHS Football Community, What a great weekend of football! Our varsity team fought tough on Friday night against Somerville, showing grit and determination from start to finish. On Saturday morning, our JV team had a huge win against Somerville, and it was great to see their hard work pay off.The kids continue to push themselves and improve every day. We’re proud of   effort and commitment, and we’re looking forward to another exciting week as we prepare for a big game this Friday night against Cambridge.

FOOTBALL

Girls Soccer

The Girls Varsity team is 5-1 one heading into a big weekend matchup on Soccer Night.  They are leading the ML12 in goals scored with 22.  The JVA are matching the pace with 4 wins (4-1-2).  (Below) JVB Getting after it in the weight room!

SOCCER

Boys Cross Country

Boys Cross Country hosted Winchester at Rock Meadow Tuesday, earning a convincing 19-39 Victory as the Marauders placed 4 runners in the top 5 of the Varsity race.  Across the whole team we saw continued improvements in times and racing performance compared to our opener at Stoneham last week.  With an off week next week, the team is entering a more intense training period as they gear up for the second half of the season.

Field Hockey

JVA is 4-2 and is playing well.  Ella Calise started the season new to field hockey and is crushing it in the net.  The team is working on being more efficient in the scoring circle.

JVB is 4-0-1.  They had a hard fought match against Concord-Carlisle ending in a tie.  The two team goalies made many crucial saves and have only had 1 goal scored against them collectively this season.

Varsity is now 5-1 with two big wins against Wakefield and Woburn this week.  The team was ranked 6th in the Boston Globe this week and hopes to keep climbing.

Boys Soccer

Soccer

Freshmen: The team has continued their fine goal-scoring form. Nimit Bhatta and Justin Pizzi kept up their finishing streaks, and Alex Alalam added a brilliant header from a Wesley Chamlian cross.

Junior Varsity: JV recorded their biggest win of the season with a 7-1 victory over Woburn. Shayan Rostamnezhad and Luca Elia have been providing strong leadership throughout the season.

Varsity: The Varsity squad has embraced a team-first approach, looking to use their depth to support a high-energy system. Daniel Chang scored his fifth goal of the season, and Jake DiOrio added his third in a 1-0 win over Woburn. Goalkeeper David Klimasmith earned his first career shutout in the match.

Girls Swim and Diving

Huge week!  The team battled and came up a bit short Tuesday at Lexington.  Today is another big test as the team host Acton Boxborough!

sWIM

Girls Volleyball

Varsity Volleyball started the week off with a tough 5 Set loss on Tuesday, bringing their record to 3-3 on the season. We are hoping to continue to improve our record with back to back games Thursday and Friday. The  JV team had a hard fought game on Tuesday against Wakefield that also came down to the third set and the Freshman team remained undefeated at 6-0 going into Thursday's game. On Saturday from 11am-3:30pm at the Shell Garage on Pleasant St next to the Dunkin’ we will be having a Car Wash Fundraiser and all of the proceeds from that fundraiser will be going to The Side-Out Foundation's research program for patients with metastatic breast cancer.
