Belmont High School

From the Principal's Desk

Friday, September 26th, 2025

Dear BHS Students and Families,

Yesterday, we had our annual activities fair, with almost 200 clubs and activities setting up stalls in the BHS cafe. We had a number of new clubs this year, complimenting the dozens of established ones. It was wonderful to see so many students sharing their passions and working hard to recruit. A big thank you to all of the staff advisors and student leaders, the custodial staff, and Mr. O’Brien who coordinated this year’s event.

Girls Cross Country

Girls Cross Country enjoyed a hiatus from competition to find opportunities to rest, recover, and get in some solid training. Last Friday we hosted a yoga session in the field house followed by functional strength work with our athletic trainer Morgan! This week we hit the ground running and have been building our fitness by working on our strength on hills as well as our speed. We are readying ourselves physically and mentally to compete against Reading next Tuesday at Reading Town Forest.

Golf

After a win on the road against Arlington Catholic, the golf team is 8-1.  Having qualified for the Division I North State Sectionals, the team is focused on finishing the season strong and vying for a Middlesex League title with 4 league matches remaining.

Football

This past Friday night we had a hard-fought battle against Cambridge Rindge & Latin, coming up just short in a close 9–6 loss. While the result didn’t go our way, there were plenty of bright spots and strong performances to build on.

 Game Highlights:

·  Senior captain Kyle Curtis connected through the air with senior Declan Doherty for key completions.

·  Senior captain Casey Regan came up big, recovering a fumble and returning it for a touchdown.

·  Junior D’Amir Varela-Neal had a huge defensive play, intercepting a pass and bringing it deep into Cambridge territory.

·  Multiple captains stepped up with great leadership and effort throughout the night.

Boys Cross Country

A slow week on our race calendar means a fast week on the track.  The Boys Cross Country team took advantage of our ‘bye week’ to get in some more-intense-than-usual training sessions as we gear up for what should be a challenging but competitive race at Reading next week.

Boys

Field Hockey

Varsity field hockey is now 6-1 after a 4-2 win against Lexington High School on Thursday (goals by Mackenzie Clarke, Gigi Mastrangelo, Mia Smith, and Kendall Regan.) The team was ranked 4th in the state by the Globe this week.  The team takes on Winchester in a big league game on Monday.  Both teams are undefeated in the Liberty division of the Middlesex League.

JVa continues to work on spacing, communication and passing.  Injuries have resulted in big players being off the field.  With their return in the upcoming week, the team is looking forward to taking on Winchester.

JVb is now 6-0-1.  They continue to put the ball in the net with impressive skill and are often beating teams by 6 goals or more.
