PTO Sponsored Teacher Wish Lists

PTO Sponsored Teacher Wish Lists

Are you looking for a way to thank your child's teacher at the end of the year?  Each teacher/team has put together a list of items that they would especially appreciate for their classroom.   Feel free to take a look and send them something as an end-of-the-year gift.

(If you're not sure who to honor, the gym/art/music/guidance counselors especially need a lot of love as their lists have gone mostly untouched.)

Physical exams

8th graders:

We made it through most of the year, I want to prepare you for an exciting 9th grade Summer/Fall 2025 sports season.  We want to help families get a head start on the requirements.  If your student is thinking of  participating in High School Sports one important step is ensuring you submit your child's 2025 physical exam.

*Physical Exams are good for 13 months from when they are issued.

In the past years we have gotten an overwhelming number of requests to process physical exams that get submitted in July and August. So in an effort to help the High School Nurses process less physical exams in Aug 2025 when they return for the 2025-2026 school year, we encourage you to submit your student's current physical exam now via  email schan@belmlontschools.net or send it to school with your student to give to the Middle School health office

All 8th grade files from our health office will be forwarded to the high school.

Combination Locks

As we approach the end of the school year, we will be directing students to clean out their lockers and return their school-issued combination locks. Locker clean out will occur June 12 for both 7th and 8th grade. Students and families are financially responsible for the return of combination locks. Some students may have taken their lock home, misplaced it, etc. Now is an appropriate time for students to locate their locks to be prepared to return it.

Important Update: 8th Grade Chromebook Collection & Summer Use

Dear Belmont Middle School Families,

We hope this message finds you well as we approach the end of another successful school year. We are writing to share an important update regarding Chromebook collection for our 8th grade students.

This year, we will not be collecting Chromebooks from 8th graders at the end of the school year. Instead, students will keep their current Chromebook, which they will continue to use throughout their high school years in the Belmont Public Schools. It is essential that students treat their device with care and understand that it is their responsibility, as outlined in our Student Acceptable Use Policy.

For Parents: Managing Chromebook Use Over the Summer

We recognize that families may have questions or concerns about device usage during the summer months. To support you, we offer a variety of resources on our Parent Resource page. Here, you’ll find helpful guides and information, including instructions for signing up for a Qustodio account—a tool that allows you to monitor and manage your child’s device usage. Please use the email address you have on file with the district to register.

If you have any questions or need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our technology department.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We wish all our 8th graders a wonderful summer and a smooth transition to high school!

BMS Grade 7 & 8 Summer Reading 2025

8th Grade Families

Dear 8th Grade Families,

In this especially busy time of the year, I am writing to remind you of some upcoming events for 8th graders as they celebrate the end of middle school and prepare for high school.

June 9th (6:00pm):  Athletic Opportunities at BHS - BMS Cafeteria

Hosted by the Belmont Boosters in partnership with BHS Athletics, this meeting is for rising 9th grade students and their families who may be interested in playing a sport at BHS.  An overview of the sport programs offered, an introduction to the coaches and captains, and instruction on how to register will be included.

June 11 (6:30-9:30pm): 8th Grade Party - BMHS Gym & Cafeteria

The PTO and 8th grade teachers will host a night of carnival games, dancing, food and fun for the 8th graders.  Tickets are still on sale at the school store and/or online using the link below.   A few more volunteers and donations are needed if you're able to help.

Tickets:  8th Grade Party Tickets

Volunteer:   8th Grade Party Volunteers

Donations:  8th Grade Party Donations

June 17th (9:30-10:15am): Moving Up Ceremony - BMHS Gym

This 45-minute ceremony will include student and teacher speeches, music, and send-off wishes.  A reception will follow in the BMS cafeteria. Students will not be called up individually during the ceremony, but will be recognized as the BMS Class of 2025.  Please enter through the field house doors (door 21) and restrict guests to two people per family so there is adequate seating.  Parking in the lots can be tight so families are encouraged to walk or carpool if possible.  Students can leave with their families from the reception.

I wish you and your rising 9th grader a wonderful summer and transition to high school.  It's been a pleasure having them as the inaugural class of BMS - a special role they will always have in the BMS history!

Bias Incident Report Form

At Belmont Middle School we take issues of bias and racism very seriously. Every student has the right to feel welcome, to learn, and feel free to be who they are. We support every student to feel safe, have a sense of belonging, and to call out acts of bias and racism and utilize consequences and restoration to ensure our community is a supportive one. If you are witness to or have experienced a bias or racist incident, you can report through the following link: https://www.belmont.k12.ma.us/page/bias-incident-reporting

The Belmont Public Schools Bias Incident Report Form can be accessed from the BPS DEI website. Some important notes:

  • Submitted forms are routed to the Director of DEIW (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Wellness) and the school's principal, who will assess the report and undertake an immediate investigation.

  • While the form may be completed anonymously, we encourage you to provide your contact information. This will enable the district to conduct a more thorough investigation and resolution. Anonymous reports may be essentially impossible to investigate.

  • More information, including definitions of "what a bias-motivated incident is" and what happens after a report is submitted, may be found on the Bias Incident Reporting page.

We encourage all members of the Belmont Public Schools community - including students, staff, parents/caregivers, volunteers, and town residents - to use this form to report any incidents of racism, bias, discrimination, harassment, or retaliation that you have experienced or witnessed, which involves a member of the Belmont Public Schools or takes place on or near school property.

Learning For Justice, an educational resource for schools defines a bias incident as conduct, speech, or expression motivated in whole or in part by bias or prejudice. To learn more or read examples of bias incidents, please see "Tips for Identifying Bias Incidents."

The district's investigation processes, including restorative and disciplinary consequences, will be tailored to each incident. While student privacy concerns will always prevent public disclosure of specific investigation details, we will publish periodic reports to keep the community informed of the number of reports made, noticeable patterns regarding the nature of the bias incidents, and conclusions of investigations when applicable.

ATTENDANCE

ABSENCE:  To excuse a student’s absence, parents/guardians must call the Attendance Line
617-993-2001 or fill out the Attendance Line Form by 8:30 AM on the day of the student’s absence.  The Attendance Line is available 24 hours, please call and leave a message as soon as you know your child will be out of school.  Give your child’s name, grade, date of absence, and a brief reason. It is important to stress that it is the responsibility of the parent to contact the school.
