Hello Belmont Community!
As we wave goodbye to another school year, I write to celebrate the remarkable journey we have had this year. This year has presented challenges and opportunities, which we have navigated together with a spirit of collaboration. Our students have impressed us all, not only by excelling in academics, but also by shining on stages, in art studios, and on sports fields. They have shown talent in leadership, civic engagement, and community service, demonstrating a well-rounded spirit and drive to contribute and impact the Belmont community.
A heartfelt “thank you” goes out to our staff whose innovation and dedication have been central to crafting enriching learning experiences that do more than educate - they inspire and empower. Their commitment ensures that our schools are not just places of learning, but communities where students feel valued and supported.
This past year so much has been achieved…
Our students have engaged in countless hours of learning, resulting in significant academic and personal growth.
We opened the new Belmont Middle School joining Belmont High School on the BMHS Campus. This was a major initiative that involved the entire Belmont community making a clear statement about the importance of education in this community.
We are prepared and ready for the transition of grade 4 students to join the Chenery Upper Elementary School, which completes the grade re-configuration as part of the BMHS building project.
We passed a budget that allows us to invest in special education programming and high-quality curriculum, both of which will be implemented in fall 2024.
Our staff engaged in many hours of professional learning and collaboration to support the best possible learning experiences for our students. This has included phonics instruction in the lower grades, equity and culturally responsive teaching, and supporting student social emotional learning, among other areas of practice.
We have pursued and received competitive grants to bring additional resources into the district to support areas such as attendance, social emotional learning, civics education, etc.
Our communications platform has been upgraded to provide easier and more accessible outreach to families which includes a redesigned website and mobile app.
These are just a few examples of the numerous highlights and accomplishments that took place over this past school year. As the summer months unfold, I encourage everyone to take the opportunity to relax, explore new interests, or enjoy some well-earned downtime. This break is a chance to rejuvenate and gear up for the exciting plans we have in store for the upcoming school year.
Looking ahead, we are committed to enhancing our educational programs and experiences for our students, cultivating environments where students can thrive.
In the next school year we will be undertaking the following initiatives to support our goals an ensure that our commitment to enhancing our educational programs is met:
Implementing special education programming including social emotional learning at BHS and language-based learning at CUE.
Examining our overall social emotional learning programming to identify opportunities for improvement.
Rolling out a new math curriculum to provide supportive and challenging Math learning for all students.
Increasing and enhancing our phonics instruction at the primary level to ensure high-quality reading for all students.
Strengthening MTSS, including opportunities for robust interventions and supports as well as positive school learning environments.
Continuing to build budgets that are responsive to student needs and maximize our available resources.
Thank you for supporting the education of our students this year. Your involvement makes Belmont a wonderful place to learn and work.
Wishing you a safe, joyful, and rejuvenating summer!
