It’s college application season—a time when many of our seniors begin to answer the question, “Where are you applying?” That question soon turns into “Where did you get in?” and finally, “Where will you go?” It’s an exciting and sometimes intense process, filled with anticipation and self-reflection. For our students, this decision represents the next chapter in their educational journey and often feels like one of the most pivotal moments of their young lives. This decision is a personal one, focused on finding a school that fits with each student’s interests and goals in a place where they can learn, belong, and dream about the opportunities ahead.
College is just one of many possible next steps after high school. For some students, that path may include a two-year college, technical or trade program, military service, or direct entry into the workforce. Others may pursue apprenticeships, service learning, or specialized certification programs that lead to high-demand careers. Each pathway represents a meaningful route toward independence, purpose, and contribution, reflecting the unique strengths, interests, and aspirations of every learner. What matters most is that students graduate from high school with the confidence, skills, and direction to take their next step—wherever that may lead—and to continue learning throughout their lives.
As a district, we share in that same spirit of helping students discover the right path. One of the goals of our Strategic Plan focuses on developing multiple pathways to graduation. This reflects our belief that every student should have access to learning experiences that build on their interests, strengths, and aspirations. Whether through thematic or vocational pathways, advanced coursework, or experiential learning, we strive to provide a variety of opportunities that prepare students for success beyond high school. Our new partnership with the Belmont Media Center demonstrates how collaboration can open new doors for student learning. By cultivating similar partnerships and innovative programs, we can ensure that students find pathways that resonate with their passions and goals.
Our students are wonderfully diverse in backgrounds, talents, and ambitions. By continuing to expand and strengthen these multiple pathways, we ensure that every student can find their own route toward a fulfilling educational and career journey.
As we watch our seniors take their next steps, we celebrate not only where they are going, but who they have become through their time in Belmont Public Schools. We are proud of their accomplishments and eager to see the many ways they will make their mark on the world.
