A letter from Ms. Williams

Dear Burbank Families,

I hope you all enjoyed a restful and meaningful Thanksgiving weekend. As we return to school, I want to share my heartfelt appreciation for our Burbank families. Your partnership, support, and care for our school community make such a difference every day, and I feel extremely fortunate to spend my days in a place that is so committed to our children.

Our November All School Meeting focused on the theme of gratitude. We also learned about Indigenous peoples of North America and highlighted members of our own Burbank community: Kim Kost-Okitsu (school psychologist), Felisia Sainz (BASEC visual arts educator), and Cristina Monroy (METCO aide). The children were very excited to learn about their indigenous experiences and histories!

The day before Thanksgiving, we celebrated the success of our Food Pantry Drive. Thank you for your generosity! The gym was buzzing as we admired the donations, followed by a heartfelt rendition of the National Anthem led by our third graders. We then headed outside for our school-wide Turkey Trot. What a joyful day!

Thank you for everything you do to make Burbank such a special community. I hope the week ahead brings calm, connection, and a smooth transition back into our routines.

As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions, concerns, or feedback.

Warmly,
Lisa

Thank you to the PTA for providing the fun addition to our tradition!

Important Highlights

Talking Points

Thank you for continuing to use our new communication platform, Talking Points, to stay in touch with the school. A quick reminder: teachers really appreciate when families respond to their messages with a heart 🩷 or thumbs-up 👍 emoji. It’s an easy way to show that you’ve seen the message and acknowledged the content -without needing to write a full response.

Illustrative Mathematics Curriculum Info Session

Monday, Dec. 8 @ 9:00-10:00 AM

Come meet Jessica DeFrances, Elementary Curriculum Specialist for Math & Science at December's PTA Community Meeting to learn more about our new math curriculum, Illustrative Mathematics (IM). Please join us in-person in the Burbank Library or virtually: Virtual Option.

Attendance Update

Each month, our Student Support Team reviews attendance records and reaches out to families if a student has been absent, tardy, or dismissed for 5 or more days (or 10% or more). If your child meets this criteria, you will receive this notice, even if we’ve already been in contact.

We understand that there are many reasons for absences, but missing school frequently can impact a child's ability to keep up with their learning. We’re reaching out to:

    • Confirm if any absences or tardies should be excused
    • Understand if there are challenges affecting attendance
    • Explore ways to support regular attendance moving forward
    • Our goal is to work together to ensure your child’s success and well-being. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
