Pawsitive "Lunch With the Principal!"

A letter from Ms. Williams

Dear Burbank Families,

I hope you are staying warm during this deep freeze! Amazingly, this Wednesday marks the 100th day of school, a wonderful milestone and a reminder of how much our students have grown academically, socially, and as a community.

Thank you to everyone who helped make Multicultural Night such a joyful success! It was a special evening filled with cultural sharing, delicious food, lively performances, and meaningful connections. We are so grateful for the many ways our families come together to make Burbank such a welcoming place And of course, we are so grateful to our PTA for working so hard to creating such a special event.

On Tuesday, we’ll celebrate our very successful pajama drive for Cradles to Crayons with a schoolwide Pajama Day and All School Meeting. In honor of Black History Month, we will read We Shall Overcome: The Story of a Song, reflecting on how the song supported the Civil Rights Movement and how the work of social justice continues today. Students will share ideas about how they can help make the world more fair, and watch and listen to the Black National Anthem, Lift Every Voice and Sing, performed by the Boston Children’s Chorus. Friday, February 27th will be Burbank’s very first Black History Spirit Day! Students, staff, and all community members are encouraged to wear red, black, green, and yellow in celebration. Thank you to Cheryl McDaniels for creating our Black History Month bulletin board!

Happy Lunar New Year to those who celebrate! Lunar New Year begins February 17 and will welcome the Year of the Horse, symbolizing energy, resilience, and forward progress. In recognition of the upcoming holiday and Kindness Week, we encourage everyone to wear red this Friday (or all week!) as a symbol of celebration, good fortune, and kindness toward one another. Families are invited to contribute to our Lunar New Year Bulletin Board. We would love to learn about how your family celebrates. Reach out to Lisa Williams if interested!

Please remember that report cards will be posted in PlusPortals tomorrow, Monday, February 9, and you will soon receive information from your child’s teacher about signing up for March conferences.

Wishing you and your families a wonderful and restful February break. It’s hard to believe how quickly the year is flying by!

Warm regards,
Lisa

Important Highlights

Kindness Week and Valentine's Day

Burbank is celebrating Kindness Week this week! Throughout the week, students and staff will participate in activities that foster kindness and connection, such as:

Making cards for classmates and loved ones

Contributing to a schoolwide kindness chain

Creating unique snowflakes with their Buddies

Spreading joy through random acts of kindness

Making friendship bracelets

If your student chooses to make Valentine’s cards at home, please remember that food cannot be shared. A heartfelt thank you to those who contributed decorations for our in-school card-making activities. We truly appreciate your support!

During and After School Events on Tuesday

All School Meeting & Pajama Day!

The PTA will be dedicating the new Beehive Book Quote Mural to last year's retirees followed by stories read by our own Burbank retirees and staff. As in previous years, we will have a virtual option as well for the story-time portion at 7pm. We look forward to seeing you in the library or online!

Where: Burbank Library or Virtual

Retiree Guests: Brenda Johnston, Nik Von Huene, Colleen Cox, Lourene Scott, Vicky O'Regan, and Noreen Sacca

Update on Physical Education

Aimee Doherty will be going on an eight-week medical leave beginning on February 23, 2026.  We will miss Ms. Doherty and wish her a speedy recovery.  We are excited to share that Lola Luna will be teaching physical education while Ms. Doherty is on leave.  Ms. Luna has degrees in Health and Physical Education and has been training and working in the field of physical education for the past two years.  We enjoyed meeting her during the interview process and are confident that she will continue Ms. Doherty’s high level of instruction in her absence.

Lost and Found

Before heading off for February vacation, please take a moment to check out our Lost and Found, located in the lobby across from the gym. There are many jackets, hats, gloves, water bottles, and other items waiting to be reunited with their owners! We will be bringing the lost and found cart out to the hard top during arrival each morning this week!
