Dear New and Returning Families,
Welcome from the Burbank Library! Students are scheduled to visit the Burbank School Library once per week to explore and borrow books.
We hope that the Library is a happy place but there are a few “rules":
Usually, when students visit the library, they are allowed to borrow one book at a time.
Borrowed books should be returned to school the morning of the student’s library day.
When a book is not returned, there are no overdue fines, but a student will usually not be able to check-out a new book.
Children should treat library books with care as they are a shared resource. Please locate a safe spot at home to store books or ask your students to return books to their school backpacks immediately after use so that they will be returned in good condition on library day.
If a book becomes lost or damaged, we ask for payment to cover the cost of the book, or we ask that you replace the book with the same or a similar book. A new or gently used book will do.
Families support the Library by:
Supporting the Burbank PTA, which provides financial support to the Library for the purchase of new books
Volunteering to shelve and check-out books during their students’ classes (up to 2 times per half year, unless additional time becomes available)
Assisting with occasional Library shelf reading/tidying
Assisting with book processing and special projects
A short, introductory meeting and training for Library Volunteers will take place in the Library on Tuesday, September 24, at 8:30 am. Please enter the school through the front door and sign-in in the School Office. If you are unable to attend, please refer to the online tutorial paperwork included in the SignUpGenius link below.
As a volunteer, your primary responsibilities are to shelve and help check out books. Please arrive 5-10 minutes before your time to help shelve books. During the class time you will help students check out books. After the class has left, please allot another 5 minutes to help shelve any remaining books. Below are approximate time slots:
Cori Check: If you would like to Volunteer in the Library this year but do not have a current CORI check on file with Mrs. Sacca, our School Secretary, please see her in the Office with a Photo ID to fill out the CORI form and a Schools Confidentiality Statement.
Burbank Library Volunteers: Do not sign up until you have all applicable forms filled out and on file. Sign Ups are limited to 2 slots for the first 1-2 months of school to ensure all have an opportunity.
Please feel free to email or speak to one of us, a member of the PTA Library Committee or another parent volunteer if you have any questions.
