We are very excited to announce that the Burbank Annual Appeal will officially begin its fundraising campaign this month. At Burbank, we are all very fortunate to be part of this wonderful and supportive community. The Annual Appeal is a great opportunity to show appreciation by giving to the PTA so that it can continue to work hard to enhance the learning and community experience both for our Burbank children and for us parents.
I, Martin Guentert (3rd grader parent), am leading the fundraising campaign this year at Burbank. I am now in my ninth and final year here. I am so grateful to be part of this school and for the experiences my two children have had. I am inspired to give back!! For all of the families that will soon be moving on in this top-rated Belmont School System, this is a great way to say a big “Thank You” to the Burbank community. For all of you that are so lucky to have another one, two or even three years here, you will directly invest in this part of your children’s future. I ask you all to think about this and let us come together and make this Annual Appeal really count.
Let’s rise to the challenge and make this campaign impactful while coming together as a community. This year we plan to offer a Burbank Community Annual Appeal Matching donation (Your $1 becomes $2) and we ask that you take advantage of your individual Company Matching donations program, if available, (Your $1 is now $3). While we hope that your donations will be generous, we also hope that the participation in this Appeal will reflect that we are a community, and that everyone will participate: Our goal is 100%.
There will be more information coming, and we are still in the process of assembling the Burbank Community Appeal Matching Fund. If you would like to be part of the group offering this matching fund, please reach out to me, Martin Guentert (martin.guentert@gmail.com or 617-549-0656). Thank You!
Our next big and beloved event is Burbank Lights the Way, coming Friday, October 18th from 5-8PM at the Playground. We will have sugar pumpkin decorating, luminary bags to design, temporary tattoos, glow sticks, popcorn, and a family-friendly movie. Bring a picnic blanket and get ready to have a fantastic time with friends! A big thank you to Carlson Orchards for sponsoring our event with apple cider and donuts, and to Dunkin' Donuts for donating hot cocoa.
As always, these events don't run themselves, and we need your help to make the night special for the kids. We are still in need of volunteers: Sign Up Here. Thank you so much!
Buy your $1 tickets in advance for all food purchases & activities. Pricing is listed on the website. Tickets will be available to purchase at the event for CASH only. Email maryleeburbankpta@gmail.com for any questions! Rain date: 10/25
We are in the process of gathering directory opt-in information from BPS this week and will begin creating the Burbank Family Directory. If you have any updates from what you shared on plus portal last month, please email secretary.burbankpta@gmail.com as soon as possible. Also a huge thank you to Anne Mahon of Leading Edge Real Estate for covering the full costs of printing our directories!
Please join us on Friday, November 15th at 9:00 AM in Mods Classroom #1 to meet with Dr. Jill Geiser, BPS Superintendent. We plan to have a virtual option available as well.
Superintendent Geiser is attending PTO/A meetings this fall to discuss the district's Strategic Plan 2024-2027. The development of this plan started with the steering committee last spring, who created the mission, vision, and core values with input and feedback from the community. From there, the strategic plan was developed by the Leadership Team. Presented to the School Committee on September 24, this plan acts as a guide for district improvement. At the PTO/A meeting, parents/guardians will have an opportunity to learn and ask questions about the goals of the district.
Principal Williams' All-School Community Meeting Assemblies take place in school once a month for all students to gather. We encourage students and staff to show their school spirit by wearing Burbank spirit wear or school colors (blue/gold/white) on these days. New spirit wear shirt designs coming soon! Mark your kids' calendars for spirit days:

Did you know that SNAP and WIC benefits do not cover diapers? This leaves many families to make difficult decisions between food, diapers, and other needs. The annual Metro-Boston Diaper Drive gives all donated diapers to the Somerville WIC office, which serves Cambridge, Somerville, Arlington, Watertown, Lexington, Bedford, Lincoln and Belmont. This year’s Drive will run from October 6 - 19. Please visit mbdiapers.org to make a donation, or click directly on the links to the Amazon and Target registries. Please help us get 50,000 diapers onto the babies in the Metro-Boston area who need them! Read more about why diaper drives like the Metro-Boston Diaper Drive are so important HERE.
As Rink Construction takes shape, the current plan with the area west of Harris Field is to re-establish this space as a grass field upon completion of the rink; however, there is a desire among many youth sports leagues and community members to explore how best to develop this space. Sports Organizations around Belmont are seeking support from residents to form a West of Harris Field (WOHF) Committee to study the problem.
For questions, see WOHF Q&A
