As we approach the winter recess break, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of our Burbank families for your generosity this year so far. The Burbank PTA exists to support our students, staff, and school to create a connected and close-knit community. Thank you for coming to our events like the Fall Social, Burbank Lights the Way, and the Book Fair. Thank you for your donations to help us reach our Annual Appeal fundraising goal. Thank you to all the volunteers who sign up to help make our events a success, to those who serve as room parents to coordinate class gifts and support to their teachers, and to those who make flyers, posters, provide staff snacks, and on and on. We couldn't do this without all of your support! THANK YOU!
Save the Date for our second PTA Community Meeting of the school year on Friday, January 10th 8:45-9:45am. We will be joining Ms. Williams with her Monthly Friday Coffee Chats. Bruegger's Bagels will be providing bagels, cream cheese, and coffee - stop by for a morning breakfast right after dropoff!
Special Guest Brandon Fitts from the Belmont Rec will attend to provide an update and overview of the Chenery Park Renovation Project! Many of our Burbank students will benefit from the new park when they move up to the CUE.
As always, these monthly Fridays are a wonderful opportunity to bring questions or concerns and learn about what's going on at Burbank. At Ms. Williams' last coffee chat, we discussed attendance rules, 3rd grade chromebooks, METCO, and the new math curriculum.
Have a specific question or topic you'd like addressed? Email Ms. Williams at lwilliams@belmontschools.net or the PTA at maryleeburbankpta@gmail.com before the coffee.
Sign up for a STEM Night Station HERE for 3/21, 6-8PM! Want to host a station but not sure about an activity? Please email maryleeburbankpta@gmail.com - we have a list of ideas!
Please note that STEM Night has been postponed to Friday, March 21 and Multicultural Night has moved to Friday, May 2. We are in need of volunteers to help make these successful events!
Best Book Fairs
Thank you for coming out to our Burbank Book Fair last Friday! It was a successful night for both our PTA Fundraising goals AND for our amazing Burbank teachers and staff who are so appreciative of the generosity of our families towards their classroom libraries!
We also want to thank you, our amazing families, for your generous donations towards our PTA financial aid funds which allowed us to cover the cost of books for students who wouldn't otherwise have been able to enjoy the fair.
A huge thank you to Burbank's own Girl Scout Troop 64770 for all of their hard work baking and running their Bake Sale table, with 100% of proceeds being donated to the Burbank PTA. They raised over $266 that will help fund classroom enrichments, teacher grants, PTA initiatives towards building a strong and supportive community. Thank you to all the families who supported their bake sale!
Finally, a massive Thank You to Belmont Orthodontics & Pediatric Dentistry and Rockland Trust Bank for sponsoring our event! Their donations covered our event expenses which means all profits can go right back to our school and students!

Thank you for a wonderful Fall Session!
Please note - this is the last week for our Fall extracurricular classes.
The Winter Session will start the week of January 13th.
1st Grade Enrichment on Dec. 2nd: First graders at Burbank got a taste of meteorology! A visiting educator from the Acton Discovery Museum guided them through the fascinating water cycle, with live demonstration of evaporation, condensation, and precipitation. They learned about different cloud types and even got to create their own mini-cloud using shaving cream. It was a chilly but fun morning of learning!
2nd Grade Enrichment on Dec. 3: The Acton Discovery Museum came on December 3rd and did a Physical Changes of Matter workshop with the second graders. The students were completely engaged and thoroughly enjoyed the presentation. The presentation focused on how one element or material can shift from solid, to liquid, to gas and (sometimes) back again. They loved the experiments with dry ice and over the course of the presentation were given opportunities to ask questions and suggest experiments the presenter could do for them right away based on their questions. The highlight of the program was when they froze a banana and flower with liquid nitrogen and then the presenter squeezed the flower and, to the kids’ delight, it shattered right before their eyes.
All Enrichments are funded by the PTA through donations from Burbank Families.
3rd Grade Enrichment on Dec. 10: Third graders had an exciting meteorology lesson with a special visit from NBC Boston, NPR, and 1 Degree Outside meteorologist Danielle Noyes. Danielle covered a wide range of weather-related topics, helping students understand the science behind the weather and its impact on the environment. She introduced students to key weather concepts, including the difference between weather and climate, the water cycle, cloud formation, air pressure, and different weather conditions like rain, snow, hurricanes, and tornadoes. Students also explored the tools meteorologists use, such as thermometers, barometers, and weather satellites, and got a behind-the-scenes look at how forecasts are made, including the use of green screens. Danielle discussed the challenges of weather prediction and briefly touched on how climate change is influencing extreme weather events. In just one hour, Danielle sparked the students' curiosity about the science of weather and its impact on our daily lives.
