FBE at work at the Burbank School!

In December 2024, the Burbank Library received a Foundation for Belmont Education (FBE) grant through the FBE’s Learning Excellence Grant Program (LEGP) to begin the process of updating and enhancing our Library’s curriculum-related resources. The grant, in the amount of $1,800, resulted in the Library's acquisition of new reinforced or library bound hardcover books related to the science and social studies curriculum, primarily as it pertains to learning about and researching Animals (habitats & life cycles), Native American Nations, American History, Symbols and Community, and Exploring Countries and Cultures.

This significant initial investment in the Burbank Library by the FBE complements the Burbank PTA & our supporters' crucial annual grant to our library.

Thank you from the Burbank Community to the FBE! And a big thank you to Barbara Watson for submitting this grant to obtain these wonderful new and needed books for our library!

Lion Dance Performance

The Woo Ching White Crane Kung Fu School presented a Lion Dance Performance on Friday, February 14, for the entire school community, with two sessions—one for K-1 students and another for grades 2-3. Many children wore red to celebrate the Lunar New Year. They were excited to watch the dance performance of two lions: a smaller yellow one and a larger red one. The dance was performed by a former Burbank student and his partner, accompanied by the rhythmic beats of drums and cymbals. After the performance, the children had the chance to ask questions about what they had seen. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to learn about the cultural traditions of Chinese New Year and experience a meaningful ritual symbolizing good luck, fresh beginnings, and a bright future.

Chenery Park & CUE Playground Revitalization

Chenery

The outdoor space and play structures at the CUE are in disrepair. The Recreation Department and the Friends of Chenery Park have lead a process working with the Schools, DPW, town committees and boards, and the community, to develop a fantastic plan. We are so excited to create a dynamic and attractive space to build a strong community, generate pride at the CUE, and create a new amenity for the neighborhood and our town.

The design includes an outdoor classroom, new softball fields, new courts, and a stunning new playground. The project will go before Town Meeting this Spring. With funds requested from Community Preservation, no new taxes are required to make this project happen. However, we need your help to achieve a successful outcome. By voicing your support through a donation, you are ensuring the project is a priority for the CPC and Town Meeting. The money we raise will reduce the burden on CPC’s limited funds while enabling construction of all the features envisioned in the final design. Your kids will soon be at the CUE and will directly benefit from this project. Your support will deliver a better playground for all.

Please visit www.friendsofchenerypark.com for additional information and opportunities to get involved. We’d love for you to join our mailing list to get updates as the process unfolds.

Thank you! - Friends of Chenery Park
