August 28, 2025

From Dr. Nolan

Welcome back to the 2025-2026 school year! I am excited to be here and to work with you and our students. Our staff has been diligently preparing classrooms and our school for the students' arrival on September 3rd! Thank you to Jason, Yordano, and their custodial assistants for cleaning and maintaining our school this summer and always.

You should expect to hear from me every Thursday.

Introducing New Staff:

We are thrilled to welcome several new staff members to the Butler community! Erin Senour, new to Belmont and Butler, will join us as our school counselor. Joy Kucinkas, joining our Belmont special education team, will serve as an inclusion specialist. Kate Anderson, coming from Winn Brook School, will be part of our first-grade team. Samantha Widdison, from Wellington, will be a valuable addition to our third-grade team. Additionally, Kim Tolleson, an experienced Belmont educator, will be teaching art. We are very fortunate to have Erin, Kate, Samantha, and Kim on our team!

Important Dates to Remember:

  • September 3rd - First day of school for grades 1-3. It will be an early release day; dismissal will be at 11:40 AM, and no lunch will be served. Grab-and-go lunches will be available.

  • September 3rd - Short visits for kindergarten students at 9:30 AM

  • September 4th - Second day of school for grades 1-3; full day with dismissal at 2:50 PM.

  • September 4th and 5th - Kindergarten begins; half of the class will attend each morning.

  • September 8th - First full day of kindergarten for all kindergarten students.

  • September 17th - 6:30 pm Curriculum Night.

School Hours:

Arrival and Dismissal:

Students enter the building with their teachers at 8:35 AM.  Instruction starts promptly at 8:40 AM every morning, so students are encouraged to arrive by 8:25 AM, when playground supervision begins. Students arriving at or after 8:40 am miss instruction and start their day already behind. A parent or guardian must sign in all tardy students at the main office.

The school day ends on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 2:50 PM. Dismissal on Wednesdays is at 1:40 PM, unless there is an early release, in which case school ends at 11:40 AM. Please see the district calendar for the dates of early release days.

Handbooks:

Here is our 2025-2025 Family and Student Handbook. Please read it carefully and let us know if you have any questions.

Summer Updates from the Nurse

I hope you are all enjoying these warm summer days. I look forward to seeing your children back at school soon. As you prepare to send your child back to school, please be sure to refill prescriptions (save that prescription box) and reach out to providers for updated physicals and paperwork.  If you have questions about what may be needed for your child, please feel free to reach out.

Medication Drop Off

If your child has an Epipen, inhaler, or daily medication that needs to be brought to school, please see the following options for medication and paperwork drop off:

  • Wednesday 9/3, Thursday 9/4, and Friday 9/5 - I will be outside on the playground during morning drop off.

  • If the above option does not work for your family, you can send epipens and inhalers in with your child, but please be sure that they give the medication to their classroom teacher or bring it to my office to avoid medications being left in backpacks, loss, or any confusion. I will confirm receipt of all medications sent in with students with parents via email. If your child requires daily medication please reach out to me directly for parent to nurse off the medication.

Updated physicals and Health Forms

Updated physicals (within 12 months) are required for new registrations,  incoming kindergarten, and first grade students.  Updated physicals can be emailed to lharteveldt@belmontschools.net, mailed to the school (attention Lisa Harteveldt), or sent in with your student. Updated physicals for students in all grades are appreciated.

As  we prepare for the upcoming school year, remember to keep your child home if they are sick and reach out directly to me for more guidance if needed. More information regarding our illness policy can be found here.

Please reach out if you have any questions or would like to set up a meeting to discuss specific health needs of your child. I look forward to an exciting school year caring for your children. Enjoy these final days of summer!

All the best,
