Butler Elementary School

Family Newsletter - April 27, 2025

Message from the Principal

Dear Butler Community,

I hope you all enjoyed April Break and found time to spend with family and friends. I was able to spend the week on a cruise to the Bahamas where the sun, sea breeze, and ocean smells restored my soul. We are less than 40 days away from the last day of school, which is June 17th, and there will be many events and activities between now and then.

As we enter the final quarter of the 24-25 school year, there will be many events, activities, and important information to keep an eye out for. If you know you will not be returning to Butler next school year, please call the Butler office at 617-993-5550 or email mfreaney@belmontschools.net so we can send withdrawal forms to you. If you have any questions, please let us know.

All My Best,
Julie Babson
Principal

Outstanding Teacher Award

Please join us in congratulating our very own first grade teacher Mr. Tavares, who was this year’s winner of the FBE Outstanding Teacher Award!  Mr. Tavares is being recognized for his work with first graders and consistently making a difference in the lives of Belmont students.

There will be a reception on Thursday, May 1st at the Chenery Auditorium starting at 6pm for Mr. Tavares and all the teachers who received this award in the other schools.  All are welcome to attend!  Do you have something you’d like to share about Mr. Tavares?  Ms. Babson is collecting anecdotes for the ceremony here!

K-Intake Day

On May 8th & 9th, Butler Staff will be meeting our future kindergartners and their families. THERE WILL BE NO SCHOOL FOR CURRENT KINDERGARTNERS. This is a chance for the staff to get to know our youngest learners as well as provides time for parents and caregivers to meet with a counselor and English Language Educator to share important information. The information gathered will help the school place students into classrooms as well as begin planning how to meet student needs.

Summer Withdrawals

As the end of the school year approaches, we realize that it's a busy time of year. You may be moving or enrolling your child in a private or vocational school.

If your child will not be returning to the Butler School this fall, we ask that you kindly notify us by Friday, June 6, 2025.

If you are not leaving Belmont Public Schools, there is nothing you need to do. Please call or email with any questions or concerns.

Color Day is Coming!

We are so excited for Butler Color Day 2024 on Wednesday, June 4 (rain date 6/11). This is one of our biggest events of the year, and in order to make this day happen, we need your help. This event runs on Volunteers and LOTS OF THEM! Please save the date, more details forthcoming!

Please reach out if you have any questions to Jenette Jurgens at contejenette@gmail.com
