Dear Butler Families,
It is my pleasure to announce that the Daniel Butler School is a School of Recognition by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE)! This distinction was given to only 57 schools out of the 1750 K-12 schools in the state and includes the Wellington Elementary School as well as Belmont High School. For a full list of schools that were recognized, click here.
Each fall, DESE publishes accountability reports for each district and school. Accountability percentiles indicate how a school is performing overall compared with other schools. A school's percentile is calculated by combining information related to student achievement, student growth, English learner progress, and chronic absenteeism. Data related to performa sets annual improvement targets, or goals, for every district and school. Schools and districts are expected to make annual progress toward these targets in order to improve student performance, and DESE reports on each school's and district's progress each year.
As a School of Recognition, the Butler School is one of only a small number of elementary schools that demonstrates high achievement and high growth and meets or exceeds targets; additionally subgroups with high needs demonstrate a higher level of growth than the state’s accountability goals. It also indicates that we have improved our attendance and our English learners are meeting proficiency standards at a rate that is higher than the state guidelines. This achievement is because of the dedication of our students, the support of our families, and tireless efforts of the Butler staff that the Butler School is exceeding expectations.
This accomplishment reflects the hard work, resilience, and commitment of every member of the Butler community. Our students are not only meeting academic standards but surpassing them, showing remarkable growth in areas such as Math and English Language Arts. These results confirm that we are on the right track for providing the highest quality education for all our learners.
We have always believed in the potential of every student, and these results demonstrate what can be achieved when we work together with focus, purpose, and a shared vision of success. I want to extend my deepest gratitude to our teachers for their unwavering dedication, to our families for their partnership, and to our students for their enthusiasm and perseverance.
While we celebrate this achievement, we remain committed to continuous improvement. There is always more to be done, and we will continue to strive for excellence in every aspect of our work.
Thank you for being an integral part of our success. Together, we are building a bright future for every student at the Butler School.
Warm regards,
Julie Babson, Principal
