Hello, Chenery Families!

It’s your PTO here with a special message:

We need volunteers to keep CUE thriving next year!…

...Could that be you??

Did you know how much (good stuff) has happened at CUE?!

🔸 Last school year…CUE was a newly formed school with a new principal.

🔸 This school year…Our PTO Board and wider volunteer team were all new (and learning on the job!)

🔸 Now….Our whole CUE Community is growing and buzzing!

Here are some of the things your PTO has done this year to support our staff, students and CUE community:

🔸 Beloved traditions: Welcome Back Picnic, Popsicle Playdates, Science Fair, Multicultural Night, Staff Appreciation, Coffee with the Principal, ASE clubs, Field Days, Grade Parties…

🔸 *New* events: Bingo Night, Trivia Night…

🔸 Brought back: Field Trips, a full Room Parent network, School Directory, CUE's Got Talent, Mystery Reader, Walk to School, new CUE Swag, Fundraisers with local businesses…

🔸 Supported staff and students: teacher stipends and materials, monthly staff treats, nurses’ closet & engineering class donations, recess equipment, gloves for the Trash Bashers…

Thank you for the teamwork!

Big shoutout to the CUE parents who made all of this happen - none of it would have been possible without them. You know who you are - THANK YOU!!!

It also happened thanks to your donations to the PTO - through the annual appeal, by supporting our local fundraisers, signing up for After School Enrichment, buying raffle tickets… Nice work, Chenery supporters!

Btw it’s never too late...

DONATE to the PTO

Here's the honest part...

Lots of our parent volunteers are continuing (yay!). But some are moving on. Which means there are some very rewarding slots opening up. (Just saying....)

Did you enjoy the events? Do you like knowing our staff and students feel supported? Want Field Trips next year?

If so, it all needs people behind it…or it simply won’t happen.

Open PTO Roles for 2026-27...

Each role is defined and manageable, with a great team around you - and we now have a whole year of know-how and road maps to support you!

Some are year-long (like Board positions or Grade Coordinators), some are one-off (like Event Coordinators); some mean being available in person; others can be done from home and/or after work.

Basically, there’s something for everyone.

Here are the roles we’re looking to fill soonest:

The full list of volunteer opportunities is way longer - if nothing below floats your boat, check out all roles and select your favorites in our Volunteer Interest Form HERE

Co-President

You help shape and steer PTO events and initiatives; work closely with school staff and volunteers; support the board - and yes, manage the inbox. All working closely with our current Co-President Sheena.

Commitment level: 2-year term - ideally a rising 4th or 5th grade parent; consistent medium lift; at times heavy and at times light.

Vice-President

You support the Co-Presidents - leading on specific projects and being a sounding board.

Commitment level: 1-year term, extendable; doesn't automatically lead to Co-President; variable medium lift.

Grade Coordinators (two per grade)

You connect teachers, Room Parents, and the PTO Board to make sure your grade's staff are supported year-long, and students get key enrichment and events: Field Trips, Field Day, Parties.

Commitment level: one year, extendable; variable medium lift.

Turkey Trot Coordinator

You run our future new fundraiser - organizing the route, rallying sign-ups, and finding sponsors for the fun run in November. Note: this role will kick off in the summer!

Commitment level: a few months; heavy lift.

Walk to School Coordinator

You organize one (in October) or two (in May - optional) Walk/Bike/Roll to School mornings - sorting routes, volunteers, and handouts on arrival.

Commitment level: a few weeks; medium lift.

Chenery Swag Coordinator

You arrange for the online store selling CUE-branded clothing to go live - liaising with Champions to reactivate the existing store for the September school start (easy!); see if clothing items should be swapped in/out; coordinate publicity with Comms lead.

Commitment level: a few weeks August-September, potentially Spring too; light lift.

Summer Meet-Ups - Support Team (we have a Coordinator, yay!)

You help organize 2 summer meet-ups per grade so families and students can connect before the first day, with popsicles and the chance to buy CUE swag.

Commitment level: a few weeks; light lift.

Welcome Back Picnic - Support Team (we have a Coordinator)

You help organize CUE's first community event of the year, the night before school starts. Arrange free activities like chalk and ball games, potentially organize snacks for sale, plug the PTO…get the CUE buzz going!

Commitment level: a few weeks; light lift.

Feeling those volunteer instincts stirring?

Reaching out is not committing - it just means you won't miss out. We know it’s a kerayzee time of year, so putting your hand up now might feel overwhelming - but remember you’ll have a whole summer to get your energy back before things kick in :)

How to get in touch….

Email us

Say which role caught your eye - or still reach out even if you’re unsure whether you can take on a role! We always need volunteers throughout the year to help with one-off tasks - and many hands make light work.

Come to the PTO Meeting
May 13 | 6-7pm - Add to Calendar

Our last PTO Meeting of the year is on May 13 | 6-7pm at CUE

See how we work, ask questions, meet the team, see what role might be for you.

(Btw coming to the PTO meeting doesn’t signal you’re a wannabe volunteer! It’s just a great way to connect with other CUE caregivers and our community -  we have helpful chats about what’s going on at CUE and how to take on your ideas.)

What's in it for you?

Hear it from the people who said yes this year: what made us volunteer, and what we’ve got out of it personally:

CUE PTO: What we do + Meet the Board

In short, volunteering means you get...

...a stronger sense of connection to your child’s school

...the chance to get to know other CUE families and staff

...to feel you’re making a difference for the school, staff, students and whole CUE community :)

Here’s to enjoying this April break - and all the CUE fun to come before the summer - AND another awesome year of CUE community feels and teamwork in September…!
