PTO Community Meeting

April 1 | 6-7pm | Faculty Dining Room at CUE

Join us tonight (Wednesday) for the PTO Community Meeting to hear about PTO plans for the rest of the year.

It’s looking jam-packed with fun stuff for each grade, with field trips and field days on the cards!

This is the last-but-one meeting of the school year - so it’s also your chance to say what you liked about this year’s PTO events as a whole, what we might skip next year, and in general share your feedback and suggestions to make sure this school year ends well - and make next school year even better!

Added incentive: there’ll be another chance to try on Chenery Swag at this meeting so you can get the sizing right. The online store closes on Monday April 6.

AND we'll have a guest appearance from The Belmont Voice board member (and CUE parent) Will Jason.

So that’s one hour…away from your kids…hanging with other parents for chat and solidarity about busy Spring schedules…and a chance to shop for clothes??

WE’RE IN!!!!

NB It’s in a different location:

Find us in the Faculty Dining Room - head toward the Cafeteria, go down the Cafeteria hallway and past the Cafeteria entrances, you’ll find the Faculty Dining Room off the courtyard. Parking lot is available.

LOOKING BACK...

COFFEE with the Principal

At this virtual version we heard helpful and heartening updates from our Principal Dr. Laura Smith:

  • CUE is showing significant progress across all grades for iReady results (Principal feedback: this is likely thanks to stability of school structures and staff; and teachers using data to inform instruction)
  • MCAS is coming up
  • Safety drills were carried out successfully
  • Transition planning is underway, with parents receiving placement surveys

Q&A majored on:

  • A temperature check on any antisocial behavior trends (nothing significant to report)
  • Team structure for 6th grade still under consideration: there are educational pros and cons, as well as practical implications, of switching all teams to a two-teacher model.

Some closing gratitude for…

  • Some examples of exemplary teacher support
  • Weekly teacher communications
  • Chenery Chorus heading to the Red Sox!

See Dr. Smith’s slides HERE

Teacher Appreciation

Our Teacher Appreciation Committee did it again!

Thanks to the team of parent and student volunteers who brought some lucky green vibes to the staff lounge in March.

Trivia Night

Well done to all those who flexed their brain cells at Trivia Night - some walked away with prizes; everyone came away topped up on general knowledge!

Tori Jiro Fundraiser

Thanks to all those who headed to Tori Jiro for delicious food and a fundraising effort yesterday! The PTO’s looking forward to receiving a check donation from Tori Jiro for 10% of the proceeds.

Meet the Board…The Finale!

Here’s the final duo of wonderful Board members explaining what prompted them to help out with the PTO and what they’re getting out of it personally.

Come along to the next PTO Events and Meetings to get a feel for how things work - we’d love to have you on board :)

Sheena Patel-Roberts

Co-President

Me / What I Do for the PTO…

I have a 4th grader on Waverley and am proud to serve as Co-President of the PTO.

Professionally, I work in Oncology pharmaceutical marketing strategy, where collaboration across teams is central to improving patient outcomes. In my PTO role, I help set priorities, partner with school leadership, and support our board and volunteers in translating community input into meaningful programs.

I joined the PTO because…

….after not being very involved at our smaller elementary school, I wanted to step up and be more engaged at the CUE. With a larger school community, it felt important to help families feel connected and to have a voice in shaping how we strengthen partnerships between families and teachers. I jumped straight into the Co-President role – going from zero to sixty – and haven’t looked back!

I’m glad I did because…

….this board and school community have made it incredibly easy to get involved. I’ve been inspired by the dedication, openness, and teamwork that define our PTO, and I’m grateful to be part of a group so committed to supporting our students and teachers!

Deepa Shakya

Vice President

Me / What I Do for the PTO…

I have a 6th grader at the CUE. For my day job, I work with program teams around the world to support the delivery of high-quality programs spanning both humanitarian response and long-term development.

I’m the Vice-president (a new position) of the PTO and love working with this amazing team of parent volunteers.

I joined the PTO because…

...I was inspired by the energy at the PTO recruiting meeting last school year. It was wonderful reconnecting with familiar faces from our elementary community and meeting new parents. I enjoy working behind the scenes, contributing ideas and lending an extra hand wherever needed, and the team was incredibly welcoming, even creating a role that fit how I could best contribute. I jumped in with full spirit.

I’m glad I did because…

...as someone relatively new to the U.S. and the education system here, joining the PTO has been a meaningful way to feel connected, better understand how the school system works, and make wonderful friends.

I'm interested in helping the PTO next school year :)

We’ll keep the reminders coming - see you at all the PTO Events this Spring!
