New and Noteworthy

Annual Appeal Soft Close

The 2024-2025 annual appeal wrapped up with a total of 72 families contributing just over $10,200.  A very big THANK YOU to all who contributed, helping us provide enrichment and educational support for the Winn Brook community.  The results were just shy of our $11,000 goal. We are pleased to report that your donations will certainly be going to good use as they help fund the over $17,000 in Enrichment and Field Trips planned for this year.

Still planning to give?  We are happy to continue to accept contributions via Paypal, Venmo, corporate matching, or a check made payable to the Winn Brook PTA and mailed to:

Winter Walk/Ride/Roll to School Day - Wednesday 2/5

Join us in making it a special morning for our kids! We need volunteers to greet students at the entrance with smiles, high fives, and words of encouragement. Contact PTA presidents@winnbrookpta.org for more info.

We're looking forward to seeing our students walking, biking, or rolling to school - refreshed by the fresh air and ready to kick off their day!

Mission Statement

Following input from our first PTA community meeting in October, we have drafted the PTA’s mission statement. This will serve as our guiding principles for allocating PTA resources and volunteer efforts. Thank you to everyone who has joined in the discussion! We’d love to hear any further thoughts or questions you may have regarding this mission statement.

Third Grade Moving Up Traditions

In an effort to continue to make it a special year for our third graders, we are seeking input from our third grade families regarding what traditions/activities matter most to your family. Please take 3-5 minutes to fill out this survey. We need your help and ideas to make any of this happen!

Staff Directory

A full list of staff and their contact information is available in the digital Winn Brook School Directory under the “Staff Directory” tab. If you do not have access to the directory, and would like access, please email presidents@winnbrookpta.org to confirm your relationship to Winn Brook.

Composting at Chenery Suspended - Funding Needed

Funding for the composting program for CUE, through the district, has been cut and the program is now suspended. Chenery’s program has been ongoing since 2017 and is the only successful cafeteria composting program in the district, thanks to efforts led by heroic science teacher Ben Ligon and his enthusiastic band of student Trash Bashers (and their parents!), all volunteering their time. In an effort to keep it going, members of the CUE community are raising funds. If you’d like to learn more or donate to this cause, please click here.

Featuring the world's most remarkable films for children ages 5-12 that you won't see anywhere else! If you and your children are interested in the preservation of green spaces and the environment, this day's films are for you. For younger viewers, a professional voice over will read subtitles aloud for each film, much like being read a story, through headphones. Supported by the Arlington Commission for Arts & Culture. Films include:

Sauvages

10:30 AM - Sauvages: Claude Barras's follow-up film to his Oscar-winning clay animation film My Life as a Zucchini is set in Borneo, where two young cousins and the members of their village protest against the destruction of their tropical forest. If you know anything about Borneo, the world's third largest island, over-development is the biggest problem. The film's stop motion animation is just astounding. Age 5-12+ (content advisory: suggestion of danger may be scary for some children).
